Question about 2002 Ford SVT Focus

1 Answer

There is fluid - feels more like brake fluid than oil - which has appeared on the driver's side floor mat - just in front of the clutch and brake pedals. It is usually just a small amount but I can't see where it is coming from. I have a 52 reg Focus 2litre Zetec

Sounds like it clutch master cylinder or brake master cylinder/ booster is leaking. Check your fluid levels.

I have a 2009 dodge Ram 3500 cummins and there is brake fluid that leaks on the drivers side floor mats. What would cause this and how could i fix it? A diagram would be very helpful

Check your brake master cylinder-your reservoir should be low if the master cylinder failed, and fluid could leak into the brake booster. Might be how the fluid winds up down below the brakes.

Also, could be from the clutch, if you have a manual with hydraulic clutch. Whichever it is will require replacing. Are any abs lines up under dash?

The clutch might be a hydraulic system. When it's leaking oil the pedal sticks to the floor and has to be pulled back manually. Because it's designed to be fail safe, it still works but only for some time till all the oil has leaked out.

The burning smell might be clutch oil dripping on the exhaust - meaning the seal on the clutch servo is leaking oil.

There are repairkits for clutch servo's - usually it's suggested to replace the cylinder seal on the clutch pedal also.

Does the clutch pedal offer any resistance? The clutch and brake system use the same reservoir, there is a hose coming out from the side of the reservoir that goes over to the clutch master cylinder. Sometimes the brake fluid level goes low as brake pads wear and lowers the fluid level too low to work the clutch. On the front side of the transmission, is a clutch slave cylinder, check it for leaks, if it leaks replace it. Hope this helps, let me know.

My '99 s-10 has a trace of oil on the driver side floor mat. the blower does not work . is this a heater core problem?

Hi:
I have completely removed the dash out of a truck like yours, and most likely the trace of oil on the driver's mat is residual oil from perhaps the brake pedal or clutch pedal linkage (if it is a manual transmission). The blower assembly is mostly on the passenger side, and if the heater core failed ( the reason I removed my dash), then you should see coolant residue, not oil.
Your blower not working could be a bad blower motor, a fuse , the blower control switch, or the resistor assembly.
Hope you find your fix...

Do you see more smoke than normal from the exhaust?
Check the floor mats on the drivers side for brake fluid, it could be leaking from the master cylinder where the brake pedal connects.
