I had a problem with a chevy with random misffires on all cylinders. It was the computer. Fords have very few problems with there computers. Does the check engine come on? Maybe have it scanned.

SOURCE: engine code p0307 cylinder #7 misfire

It could be carbon deposits on valve seats keeping valves from totally closing. You can try getting you a can of motorcraft PM3 top end engine cleaner and get engine up to operating temp then remove one of the small vacuum lines from the intake and draw the contents of the can slowly into the engine. After you have drawn in the contents shut engine off and let it soak for about 45 minutes then crank it back up and let it run until it clears. Now it will smoke like a forrest fire while you are doing this so don't be alarmed, just tell the neighbors you are spraying for mosqitos. This may cure the problem. If not you may be looking at a valve job.
This can be verified with a compression test if this is what is causing it.

SOURCE: Intermittent Misfire on cyl #4 1997 Buick Lesabre

How's your coolant level? The intake manifolds on the 3.8L engines are prone to breakage at various locations causing coolant leaks into the crankcase and vacuum leaks on intake ports.Removal of the upper intake manifold will be necessary for inspection. Also, check for vacuum leaks at various locations on the outside of the intake manifold using WD-40 or brakeclean/carburetor cleaner sprayed hoses, non-electrical components, at the base of the manifold etc. As for a faulty injector, not likely but if you suspect one you can always swap the suspect injector with another on the engine and see if the misfire follows the injector. Just be sure to relieve the fuel pressure before servicing. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: coil pack

Cylinders 2 - 4 - 6 are facing the radiator. Cylinder 2 is closest to the drive belts.

Cylinders 1 - 3 - 5 are facing the firewall, cylinder one closest to the drive belts.

Hope this helps; and Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.

Have you tested for a signal on coil no1, if no signal it'll be a wiring fault or bad ecm, but the problem could be the valves to that cylinder.

2004 Sorento began with code P0305, cyl #5 misfire. Inspected and replaced plugs, wires, and coil pack on cyl #2. Repair shop told me cyl #5 injector bad so they replaced. Still has misfire.I suggeste

If you had code P0305, I don't know why they would have done anything to the #2 cylinder but if they have already replaced the plugs, wires and injector; here are a few more items to check:
1) Check connections from ECM. Look for any corrosions or bent/broken pins.
2) Check the fuel line pressure
3) Check the engine compression
4) And if the above are good, then you will probably have a defective ECM

Code po300

Code 300 is a "random misfire"
It could be caused by a bad spark plug, plug wires or coil pack (there are 3 pack on the V6)
On a V6, there is usually there is another code like 301, 302, 303. These tell you which coil pack may be causing the problem.

Hello I have a1997 xk8 runs great but my check eng. light came on and the code that it read was a misfire code were do I start troubleshooting.

If it was a specific misfire code go to that cylinder and check the following: plug, wire, and coil, if it is a random misfire code, start by checking your spark plugs(including the gap), plug wires, and coil packs.

Why is my 1997 expedition showing a misfire on number 2 cylinder OBD code PO302. Also I am getting code readings PO174 andPO171 system to lean on Bank 1and 2

PO302 is being a misfire, could mean the plug is bad or the coil is bad for that cylinder. Which can give you the misfire reading and the system to lean codes. Check the #2 coil for firing.

I have a 1997 ford taurus 6 cylinder that has a ''misfire'' diagnostics reading. It says cylinder six. I have changed all the spark plugs and wires and reset the code, the check engine light came back on....

Vacuum lines will not cause a specific cyl misfire. You may have a bad coil pack, or bad injector. You will need to make sure you have spark at the specific cyl listed for the misfire, and can test to see if you have injector pulse using a noid lite. Also, and good scan tool can show you live data, and allow you to watch the components operation, and give you a good starting point to determine the miss.
