The front differential takes 1.1 pints of hypoid gear oil, and the rear - if you have a 7.5" ring gear, takes 5 pints - if you have a 8.8" ring gear, it takes 5.5 pints of hypoid gear oil. add half an ounce of friction modifier to the front, and 4 ounces friction modifier to the rear regardless of ring gear size.

Hypoid Oil - EOAZ-19580-A
Friction modifier - EST-M2C118-A

Suspension The independent front suspension (IFS) system is composed of a two-piece front driving axle, two front coil springs (5310) and two radius arms. The front driving axle consists of two independent axle arms. One end of each axle arm is anchored to the frame (5005). once you have the passenger side/nearside drive shaft out use some thing long to slide in onto the head of the stuck drive shaft. use something soft like a old wooden broom handle then knock out using hammer. ford have used simple spring clips to keep there drive shafts in and thes are easily come by if deformed or squashed

1998 ford ranger 4x4 Front Axle hubs will not engage

I found a website that explaned that you can remove the hub and dust cover, inside is a spring which holds the hub out, removing this spring and replacing the rubber dust cover and hub will lock your front hubs in continious. as is done on later models, This has worked for my 98 4wd
