I have the Haynes repair manual 1987-2003 Jeep Wrangler with all of the schematics. Which wiring scematics do you need and maybe I can scan/email the pages, if this legal? Or can maybe answer questions you may have, keeping in mind I am NOT a mechanic but I can read plans/schematics

SOURCE: I need a picture and spark plug diagram and timing degree setting for a 1987 jeep wrangler with a 4.2 engine

Check this on 1987 Jeep Wrangler 4.2 liter L6 VIN "C" 2-bbl

Ignition timing is a measurement, in degrees of crankshaft rotation, of the point at which each cylinder's spark plug fires. It is normally listed as a specification in degrees before or after Top Dead Center (TDC) of the compression stroke.

On the 4.2L engine, the timing can be adjusted by turning the distributor in the engine. A graduated timing degree scale located on the timing case cover is used for reference when timing the ignition system. A milled index notch in the vibration damper is used to align the No. 1 cylinder ignition position of the crankshaft with the correct timing degree mark on the graduated scale.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

1987 Jeep Wrangler 4.2, runs good but at times wants too lung and buck when acceling at times, also will stall and not restart, checked floats to carb but seem ok,

Have you tried checking the springs on the inside of the distributor.Sometimes they get stretched and causes the timing to run sporatically. An easy way to check is to look at your tach and see if its fluctuating while idling.

I have a 1987 jeep wrangler and it will not shift into 4 wheel dr

The front axle connects 4wd by vacuum. check the vacuum hoses that run to the actuator. Pay close attention to the vacuum hoses running underneath the battery as battery acid can eat thru those hose easily. Good Luck.
