Question about 2004 Volkswagen Passat

1 Answer

I purchased a 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0 T Oct 2010. The miles were 49000 at purchase. I am now at 51500 miles and have required 4 oil changes because the stop engine, oil pressure level is too low keeps coming on. I took it to a dealership and had the cam shaft replaced. The same light is on now and I am afraid that i am about to become another victim of this oil sludge issue. I cant afford to continue high maintenance on this vehicle. It has become a concern. As an expert, can you tell me if this issue has ever been resolved by volkswagen and should i be concerned enough to take further measures to avoid this oil sludge issue and if so what are they? HELP

Call the VW 800 number in your owners manual. They should take care of it for you.

When should a timing belt be changed on a 2006 VW Golf SDI. I am purchasing one with 67,500 miles and I want to know should the belt have been changed already or does it get changed at 80,000 miles.

It should be changed at 80,000 miles but volkswagen dealers will recomend it being changed from 60,000 miles or 4 years, they do this to cover themselves

Hope this helps Chris

I bought a new Tucson 2006. The battery died in Oct 2009 and I replaced it, died again in May 2010, I replaced it, died again in Oct 2010 and I replaced it. Jan 10, 2010 it has obviously died again. ...

If the battery was made in china, Which walmart likes to buy from, I would go to another store and get one that will work for more than a couple of months. PS Don't get one from autozone either.

How much oil is required when changing the oil and filter in a 1998 VW passat sedan 1.8L turbo? I've also heard that there is a oil slugde problem with those engines, are there any additives or solutions...

1998 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT 1.8L 4-cyl Engine Code AEB/AWM Turbo
Models with 1.8L Engine codes AEB, ATW, AUG, AWM only
use engine oil that is formulated to meet
Volkswagen oil standard VW 502.00
(with viscosity of SAE 5W-40, 5W-30 or 0W-40).

CAPACITIES: Engine, with filter..........3.5 liter To prevent overfilling during oil changes, add 0.5 liter
(0.5 quart) less than capacity shown, start engine, let run
until engine operating temperature is approx. 60 °C (140 °F)
, switch engine off, wait 3 minutes, check dipstick,
fill to full mark as indicated on dipstick (may be more or
less than 0.5 liter (0.5 quart) depending on model).

As for the sludge question, I add Marvel Mystery Oil around 600 miles before i do my oil change. This will clean out the oil pick up screen and oil journals through out the engine, I do this on every oil change and i have over 356,000 miles on my engine. Oil and filter changed every 3,000 miles intervals. Good luck and hope this helps.

Oil usage in 2006 passat 2.0 turbo

I had the same problem with my wife's 2006 passat turbo. We lost 2.5 quarts in 3000 miles and the warning light came on. They put us on a 1000 mile oil test and I lost 1.8 more quarts of oil. They finally agreed to replace the rings. Service tech told me that the factory rings are defective, they begin to lead after about 25,000.
