Question about 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

No start, will crank has spark has fuel pressure, but has no injector pulse? checked powers, wires, etc. Can get vehicle to run if we bypass to ground wire from injectors before it gets to the PCM? any thoughts

    my car will not start it has a 45 psi of fuel pressure and has spark, a good battery, alternator and starter what could it be i diagonised it was my friends cheap scan-tool and it said it had a vacum leak somewhere i need to know a possible problems it may i'd appreciate some help i need to fix my car

    Sounds like the, do you have power to the injectors?? Get a Noid light tester and check for injector pulse, the little tester is cheap and it plugs into the injector plug, it will flash if the injector has a signal.

I had the same pro,check your injecter fuse,20amp inside the car,i did everything i could do to it,and found out it could be a fuse.

Im having the same problem now, i heard it could be the crank sensor. i guess it is linked to the injectors??? im gonna look at it today

Engine turns over but wont start , think we have eletrical fault to fuel pump.


I can't look up wiring diagram w/o year--make--model? Usually if it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the plugs, where applicable. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse.

My automotive database is a US database, it won't have vehicles sold only in other countries.

My 2000 Pontiac grand prix stop running the other day. It turns over just fine but it won't fire up could it be anything other than the fuel pump. ( I really don't want to change that)


its pretty simple to check for fuel pressure. If there is no fuel pressure than the next step is to check for power and ground at the pump. if those check out then a new fuel pump should fix the problem.

your engine needs 3 things to run. fuel, spark, and compression. if you have fuel pressure than check for spark. if there is no spark than there could an issue with a crank or cam sensor. If the crank sensor is bad than typically there will be no injector pulse as well. after cranking it over a couple times pull a plug and see if it is wet. if it is you know the crank sensor is working and the fuel pump is working and you have a spark issue. If it is dry than there is a fuel delivery issue (fuel pump/injector/injector pulse/etc.)

there are many things you can check very easily to help narrow down the possibilities.

Fitted cranksensor injector loom still not starting ?


You would put on a new crank sensor because the ignition system won't work, it gives no spark. So now do you have spark at a spark plug wire end? A blue consistent spark? Probably good ignition system, as long as all spark plugs get a spark.

One thing you always want to check with no start is the fuel pressure. Turning the key to on should turn the fuel pump on and put pressure in the fuel rail at the engine. Autozone and maybe others rent or loan fuel pressure gauges. Multi-port injection systems have high pressure specifications, around 40 psi normally. That is what the injectors require to spray out fuel when they pulse and open the nozzles.

With the injector circuit, the first thing to check is if each injector has power to it with the key in ON. One power wire and one ground wire goes to each injector. The power wire is from a fuse that is powered with key on or key in start, and then it is spliced to all of the injectors. The injector grounds all run into the engine computer, where the circuit can be internally grounded for a split second and cause the injector to pulse. But anytime the key is on, the injectors have steady voltage available to them.

what vehicle? injector pulse controlled by computer. the computer recieves a pulse from crank angle sensor, or distributor pick up, etc.
then controls injector pulse. Mass air flow on some vehicles determines spray pattern

Gmc jimmy 2000 will crank but will not start what could be the promblem


does the word security stays flashing after you crank the engine? if it does vehicle has a problem with the passlock 2 system which is a factory installed anti-theft system. when faulty which is too common on those year GM models, vehicle will start and run for 2 or 3 seconds and die out. follow this procedure: 1) locate yellow 20ga. wire running out of steering column which will run along with heavier gauge wires. correct wire will be thin compared to the main ignition wires. 2) cut wire and connect an in line toggle switch and leave in on position. 3) put key in ignition and move forward and leave it that way for approximate 15 min. or until security light goes out. 4) as soon as light goes out vehicle should start. if it does not crank engine again until it starts. 5). when engine starts flip toggle switch to the off position then security light will come on. done. passlock system is bypassed. security light will stay on constant but vehicle will no longer leave you stranded.

I was driving down the street when my van just quit running. I replaced the coil, checked fuel pressure at the rail, checked spark, checked to see if the timing belt was broken, no clue!!!


Have you tried starting it with carb spray? If you have spark it should start. If it does and you do have fuel pressure (roughly 35 psi) than the next step is to check for power to the injectors and check for injector pulse.

All four injectors should have a dark green with orange wire. This is the power supply. There should be power anytime the key is in the run position or in the crank position. The other wire on each injector is grounded by the computer.

If it doesn't start than I don't think it would be a bad idea to at least pull the timing belt covers to see if the cam and crank are still in time.

I checked my spark plugs and have a spark going to each plug. I changed the fuel pump thinking I didn't have enough fuel pressure. I sprayed some starter fluid in the intake and it started for about 5...


If you are getting spark and the engine tries to run on starter fluid, then you have lost fuel. Check that you are getting injection pulses at the injectors and check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail at the injectors. Check for power to the fuel pump when the engine is cranking, If you get no power to the fuel pump when cranking the engine, check fuses and relays. If the pump is running but you have no fuel pressure, check the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator and replace any that are faulty. If the injection pulses are missing, check the supply relay which supplies power to the injectors first ( the injectors are earthed by the ECU) Disconnect one of the injector plugs and using a test light (buy one from a auto parts store) clip the end to a good earth on the vehicle body, switch the ignition on but dont start the engine, then probe the two connections in the injector plug. One of these connections should be active all the time with the ignition switched on. If it is, you may have a sensor failure (crank sensor etc), if it is not, check fuses and supply relays. A word of warning, the wiring you are dealing with is connected directly to the engine control, if you make a mistake, you can cause irreparable damage so if you have any doubts, take the vehicle to a professional..

Test: car won't start


does it crank but not start or does it just click like dead battery or starter if it cranks check for spark and fuel pull spark plug wire and insert a screw driver and hold it close to an engine ground and have someone try to crank the engine is there a strong spark and use what is called a noid light it plugs into the plug for the injectors to see if the injectors are pulsing it should blink when you try too too start the engine if you have pulse and spark check for fuel pressure there should be a service port on the fuel rail that looks like a valve stem for a tire sort of youll need a fuel pressure tester if you had no spark or pulse at tthe injectors its most likely either the cam sensor crank sensor or the computor(pcm) if only no spark change the coil if that doesnt work you might need an ignition module but that requires more testing I cant explain here see a technician if no fuel pressure remove fuel filter drain and attemp to blow air through it if you cant its clogged replace and try vehicle if no start still feul pump is bad replace pump .

1990 montero no start. No power to open injectors, good fuel pump


Check the injector pulses with an osciliscope. If you arent getting a pulse check the ecu. I have cooked 2 of them. One killed my ignition but had good fuel. the second time it wouldnt open the injectors but had good spark. A quick check is to take the ecu out and take the cover off. then look for burnt electrical components.
