A wooden rod mounded by a coil is called as solenoid...the current transmit over there to get intial start of ignition...this transmission solenoid is used to limit the flow of current in a car circuit..
If I remember right the 2000 solenoid pack is slightly different than the '96. I've only seen that happen myself once. I just called my local bone yard and got a solenoid pack from the same year of trans. and did it that way.

this is a common problem with the pacifica, the servo or solenoid pack as some call it is the brains that make the transmission work, there is a bunch of o-rings that seal the servo pack to the transmission case that start leaking as the transmission gets some age on it sometimes you can just remove the servo pack and replace the o-rings but a lot of the time the top of the solenoids start to leak and when this happens you have to replace the complete pack, the service is just something that should be done periodically it is recommended every 60,000 to 80,000 miles.
the car is likely stuck in second as that is the default gear when there is a transmission issue.
Is the check engine light on? I suspect it is.
Have you checked for transmission codes? if so what are they?
There are several things that go wrong with these that are fairly simple to fix and cheaper than the solenoid.
To replace the solenoid pack (by the way I have never had this fix a transmission problem) you are going to remove just about everything on the drivers front of the engine compartment. The air filter housing, computers, battery, fuse boxes, etc. Then you will be ably to see the solenoid pack located on the front of the transmission. You will then need to remove the cooler lines and the input speed sensor from the transmission. The three bolts for the solenoid pack can be removed with a 10mm socket. A new solenoid pack can be purchased from the dealer.
Hi!!
Your problem is most likely the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid valve. Check Fuse and Related wiring, if all looks OK, remove transmission pan to get to the TCC Solenoid. The solenoid packs are known to leak. You will need to remove:
The transmission cooling lines
the Speed Sensor,
the plug on the solenoid block,
the 3 tenmm bolts on the top of the Solenoid pack,
the solenoid pack,
old gasket (the new pack comes with new gasket)
Install
The new Solenoid Pack,
the new gasket ,
the Speed Sensor and,
Transmission Cooling Lines
Start vehicle, check Transmission fluid level, check for proper shifting and have computer reset. Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.
USUALLY A SHIFT SOLENOID DTC IS REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE TRANS SOLENOID PACK ASSEMBLY..LOCATED ON OUTSIDE OF TRANSMISSION..YOU MUST BE CAREFUL WHEN CHANGING PACK..CLEAN ALL DIRT/DEBRIS FROM OUTSIDE OF PACK..YOU DON'T WANT ANY DIRT TO ENTER TRANSMISSION..SOLENOID IS A SMALL BOX LOCATED ON SIDE OF TRANS FACING FRONT OF VEHICLE..YOU MUST REMOVE TRANS COOLER LINE HOSES FROM FITTINGS ON TRANS..REMOVE INPUT SPEED SENSOR..UNPLUG PACK..8MM SCREW HOLDS IT..3 BOLTS HOLD PACK TO TRANS..YOU MUST CLEAN ALL GASKET RESIDUE THOROUGHLY BEFORE INSTALLING PACK..I'D RECOMMEND GETTING SOMEONE WHO HAS DONE THIS BEFORE IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE DOING THIS..I HOPE THIS HELPS
ANY CODES PRESENT?ENGINE LIGHT ON?YOU MAY HAVE AN INPUT OR OUTPUT SENSOR DROPPING OUT..ALSO SOME DIRT MAY HAVE ENTERED TRANSMISSION WHEN SOLENOID PACK WAS CHANGED..MAY HAVE WENT INTO SMALL FILTER SCREENS OF SOLENOID PACK WHEN ENGINE WAS STARTED,CUTTING OFF FLUID FLOW TO SOLENOIDS..HAVE SEEN THIS RECENTLY AFTER A SOLENOID PACK REPLACEMENT
P0700 is a code in the engine computer telling you that you have codes in the transmission computer. You need to have the transmission computer scanned.
th e trans solenoid pack is located on the trans just under the air box, it has a cover on it that says DO NOT REMOVE, there are three bolts on the top and the others you will have to drop the pan and valve body to access. there are seals under/behind it that leak.
