97 jgc laredo 4.0 in line 6, 4x4...ok here it is...sometimes the fuel pump will run and start. However like now the fuel pump is not running...kinda like intermit power..sometimes it runs sometimes it doesnt. It will also at times be hard to start then sputter and die like it is straving for gas. Checked relays and fuses they are fine. So now what???? Why is there power sometimes and not all the time to the fuel pump

If the pump starts to jam it wills seem like it won't run. The stuttering on startup is also related to a failing fuel pump as the intank pumps in our Jeep (I have the same ZJ)

Next time it won't start, try hitting the fuel tank with a small hammer (lighty as per not to crack it)
This can sometimes jar the pump in such a way to get the fins spinning again. If this works I would reccomend replacing the fuel pump.

You should also hear the pump prime when you turn the ignition to on (before start)
Priming the pump 3-4 times can help the stuttering on startup.

You can also get a fuel line pressure tester from most auto parts stores and verify that you are holding pressure after the pump is off.

Cheers
Dave

i also have a jgc Laredo with the same issue, but after i dropped the tank and got all of the innards out i found that my strainer was so clogged it was stopping my feul pump. so if it comes down to it, it could be an easy $25 fix. also check your lines as there could be a kink, also my problem.

My 97 grand Cherokee Laredo ran out of gas . I put 6 gallons in. Still will not start. No gages are coming on when trying to crank. Please help.

Have someone crank it for while you bang on the bottom of fuel tank. If it starts you have injured fuel pump by running out of gas

97 jimmy, doesn't run, diagnosis please

If you can hear the fuel running threw the injector rail. The regulator is bad. To test it, clamp off the return line. Or use a fuel pressure tester. Your going to have to replace the fouled plugs. Are you getting spark to the plugs?
