Pretty basic the trunk and move the trunk liner material away from the rear of the car to expose wiring for the tail lights...there are 3 light bulbs per side, the backup, brakes and tail lights...just twist the plug where it connects to the lens assembly and the socket will come out...remove the bulb and take it to the auto parts store to make sure you purchase the correct replacement...if your lenses are broken, there are 6 nuts to remove that lets the entire lens assembly be removed and replaced with one from a junk yard, you cannot buy these new anymore...good luck...

Tail lights quit working

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, please check the bulbs for it can be blown. If the bulbs are good then it can be just a blown fuse for the tail light.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one

I have a tail light bulb out on the passanger side and need to replace it, how do I get to the bulb? Do I need to remove the whole tail light assy. to get to it ?

sYOu do not mention which model Mercury you have, but it is common that the tail light pod has to be removed on many Fords to replace a bulb-done by unscrewing caps that are mounted on studs that pass through the rear header panel.

My tail lights and reverse lights work on my 1993 mercury capri but the brake lights dont work

If all the brake lights won't work, try checking the fuse for the brake lights. If it's still good, try replacing the bulbs, sometimes they go out one by one and we don't notice it until they're all out. Those are the most common problems.

'93 Mercury Cougar Lighting/Electrical Problem

This sounds much like a fuse problem. I would definitely start with the fuses, check to make sure they are ALL in good condition and replace as necessary.
Secondly, make sure your grounds are good. Battery grounds, wiring harness grounds, etc.

Turn signal, dont work, emergeny flahers work

first you need to check the ground connection of the tail lamp, poor ground connection might be the cause. about the turn signal, clean the turn switch using contact cleaner spray. If this cannot solve the problem. The switch have to dissmantle and service manually.

Tail Lights

It sounds like you need to eliminate the problem, step by step. The first step, is to check the tail lights, to see if they are loose. Next step, check the wires leading from the tail lights, to see if they are bare & touching something. Next, check your fuses, to see if they are loose. Finally, if that doesn't help, go purchase new tail lights and replace them and see if that works.
