1996 VW Passat TDI Won't Start Dash Noise

I have a 1996 VW Passat Sedan TDI with 115K

When I first get in the car the LCD display in dash is blank. When I turn the key there is an odd buzzing in the dash for approx 2 seconds, then the dash will come alive. I then can turn the key to start position and start the engine. If I turn the key to start without waiting the two seconds the alarm will go off for 30 seconds and reset! Also the 'open trunk' indicator light never goes off, and the (electric?) door locks don't work, only manual.

The battery is good. The ignition switch has been replaced. The rear trunk switch has been checked out. The glow plug relay has been replaced. Now the instrument cluster has been replaced $$$ and no change.

Please help. I need my car.

You need to seek out a mechanic who specializes in VWs and he will put the car on a machine to check out the entire computer system. Iknow this is probabaly not what any of us like to do, but sometimes you can have a really good mechanic who is an independent work on your car. check his references and prior employment history and it should cost you much less than a dealership shop.

Sounds like fuse issues to me. refer to your manual or get a friend to check the fuses in veichle to make sure that there is no issue with any of them.

2012 VW Jetta TDI battery won't hold charge and car only clicks and won't start

You need to charge your battery up more. Either get a battery charger or leave the jumper cables hooked up for a longer period of time.
Your battery was probably completely dead. You might even need a new battery...they really don't like to be completely drained.

My interior lights wont work in my vw passat 2.0 tdi sport 2007

  • There is a fuse box on the drivers side either under the dash or on the aids of the dash. One of them fuses could be blown.

  • The other thing that could be going wrong is the harness on the driver side door. If you open the drivers door you will see a harness stretching from the frame to the door. You can get into that harness and look for broke, bulged or rusted wires and splice in new ones. This is common with aged vehicles because of the amount that door is used.

Air-conditioning not icy cold inside my VW Passat TDI 1996

chances are if you system was serviced by modern equipment then they would have pulled a vacuum before recharging .. that would eliminate moisture in the system .. the evaporator is inside your heater box .. you cant see it .. the condenser is the radiator like device in front of your engine cooling radiator ..

if the system is changed properly and still does not work or works intermittantly . then there is a good chance that the air conditioner clutch electronic module is bad .. thats a relay like device located on the drivers side behind the dash .. you have to snap off the dash side panel .. its normally hidden by the door .. inside that is the fuse panel and behind that is the relays/electronic modules .. the one that operates the air conditioner clutch is marked 384 .. there are other possibilities depending on your a more precise description of the problem ..

I have a 96 TDI (diesel) passat. The Connection is in front of the main dash board just in front of the wiper "hand" You need to pull a little piece of plastic tha has a tiny "speaker" looking grill on it. Be careful when you pull this out not to bust the wiper selector handle...
