Sorry but I earlier said that the firing order was 1,2,3. I am sorry but it is actually 3, 2, 1 going from left to right. The back was right 5,, 4, 6 going left to right.

What is the manufacturer's specification on ignition timing?

I would recheck the firing order for the plugs as that will be the cause of the back firing
the timing will be 12 degrees advanced

Where is number one spark plug wire on dist for 1950 gmc 216 ci

Since distributor may have been moved, best is to turn engine with #1 plug out until you get to TDC compression stroke on #1, then remove dist cap to see where rotor is pointing.

How to Connect sparplug wires in the correct fireing order?

The firing order is 1342 Number 1 should be marked on the distributor cap . start from there , notice the direction the rotor turns, next terminal on the caps goes to number 3 cylinder and so on. to find number one if the cap is not marked do the following. remove number 1 spark plug and turn engine over till compression is felt, line up the timing marks on the crank pulley and timing cover. remove the dist. cap the rotor is now pointing to number 1 position on the cap.

How to install a distributor in 1976 oldsmobile 231 v6

Turn or line up, number one cylinder at top dead center
on compression stroke, not bottom dead center

Have the crank pulley timing line, in line with the
tab on timing cover at zero degrees

Turn the oil pump if you can't drop the dist in
the motor

Line up the dist to the correct position for the
firing order, you need that before you start

Draw a picture of wire positions & dist location
first

Will need the old fashion timing light to set timing
with vacuum hose of dist advance

My car is 2004 Chevy Blazer, 4WD 4Dr, 4.3L. I changed intake manifold gasket today. When I pulled off the distributor, I didn't mark the position of the rotor, distributor and lower manifold. I thought...

Turn the engine over and bring #1 piston to the top of the cylinder then remove the dist. cap and be sure the rotor is pointing to #1 plug wire in the firing order. Turn the oil pump shaft with a screwdriver so you can keep the rotor pointing to #1 in the firing order set the dist. You have to pay close attention when you set the dist to the oil pump shaft or you can get it a half tooth off and car will backfire when you start it. Good luck

94 royal begis to cut out, chugs at about 55

Replace the spark plugs and wires along with a distributor cap and rotor. Be careful to leave the old wires and plug wires connected to dist.cap, just remove dist. cap from the distributor and lay aside with plug wires on it then install rotor then new cap and proceed to replace each wire for cap and spark plug one at a time so you don't mix up the spark plug wire firing order. Cap laying to the side is used for reference purpose.

Cannot start changing pugs and wires

Sounds like you have the firing order right but your off on the #1 on the distributer. Every time you get an explosion coming from the carb its misfiring. Find the #1 on dist and continue with firing order
