HI!!
The spark plugs are the standard 5/8" drive, you probably are not getting deep enough to reach the plug. You can use an extension with your ratchet, but sometimes it comes off when pulling the plug out or gets stuck after the plug is installed. There is an extra long 5/8" spark plug socket available at the auto parts store that makes the removal and installation a lot easier.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

No electricity to the plugs? If it has a coil pack(where the spark plug wire comes from)it is probably bad.Auto-Zone will run the codes for you if you could get it there. don-ohio

I am attempting to change spark plugs on my 2001 ford focus. however the plugs are not really visible but rather down in a narrow shaft. What now?

You will need to buy an extended spark plug spanner. They are made specifically for this issue and any auto mart will sell one to you. I THINK that the focus uses a 10mm plug, rather than a 17mm plug, obviously, you need to get the correct one, but anyone in the shop should be able to tell you which you need (or, if you don't have the new plugs to hand, go to the spark plug section in the shop, look up your plug and check the spanner against the recommended plug).

Smcaron1213@aol.comcan you send me the schematics for a 2001 ford escort?

You can find the schematics in the back of a Haynes Repair manual for this vehicle on the shelf at Autozone, if not on the shelf check your local library for Haynes and Chiltons manuals. Hope this helps, let me know.

Spark plug problem

You need a spark plug socket, a standard deep socket is usually not deep enough.

I need to change the alternator on a 2001 ford focus and need to know what size wrench is needed to loosen the timing belt tensioner enough to remove the timing belt. Please help

I don`t know the size, but it will be metric. If you have a standard, american set of wrenches, get the one that is closest to fitting the bolt head. Here is something to help you decide what the actual metric size wrench to use.8mm is 5/16,,,10 mm is smaller than 3/8.11mm is a 7/16.12mm is larger than 7/16 but smaller than 1/2.13mm is 1/2,14mm is 9/16,15 is bigger than 9/16,but smaller than 5/8.,,5/8 is 16mm.17mm is 11/16,18mm is bigger than11/16,but smaller than3/4,19mm is 3/4.I hope this helps.

What Bosch super 4 spark plug fits a Ford Focus 1.6 zetec.

my advise don't get those, they don't work as well as you think they do.
if you think about it if they are so much better why don't drag racers use them?
because they actually block the ignition point.

just get the factory style plugs and you will be better off.
