Question about Mazda MPV
If it is a later model (for instance, mine is a 2000) it could be the sparkplug wires are to old. I had the same problem as well as chugging and sputtering going up hills. What was going on was the wires were not allowing enough power to get to the plugs to fire properly. Disconnect the Mass Air Valve while the vehicle is running, if you get a steadier idle and stonger overall sounding engine that this is definately your problem. I did it and my MPV purrs now.
