When I turn the key, the engine does turn, it is as if there is no spark what so ever. I have checked fuses, and all are fine. I did notice however that when I turn the ignition key to start, the fuel guage does not even move up...

There is definitely petrol in the car, I have checked. The only thing I am not sure how to check is if there is petrol going to the engine, any advice.

I thought it may be that, I unfortunately don't have a manual, where would the fuel pump be on a Polo... How would I check it...

  • info4028 Mar 19, 2011

I have found a broken pipe, where the main fuel line enters the the top, there is a smaller pipe just underneath it which was severely frayed I will replace it shortly... But I still don't know where the petrol pump is. I have tried googling it, but no help so far.

We have replaced the plugs distributor coil and router, car still doesnt want to start Vw polo classic 1.6 2003 model

Before replacing those parts did your test , trouble shoot ? Was there spark ? Is there B+ voltage to the coil ? Is there fuel pressure ? Part stores love U ! With the distributor cap off crank the engine , does the rotor turn ? Worn out timing belt if it doesn't ! Is there compression ? Pull out spark plugs ,install a compression gauge an crank the engine , does the needle move ?

Vw polo 1.6i classic runs and then just cuts off

Could be lots of things from fuel tank breather to electronics. Diagnosis needs to be by logical progression following such clues that are available.

It would be best practice to begin by making certain the routine maintenance is up to date and competently carried out.

My vw polo classic 1.6 2001 model petrol don't want to start,no spark and cuts off itself while driving changed distributor, cap, rotor, coil, fuel filter but still same problem .What could be the cause?

You don't say whether you have physically checked the spark when it is not starting or it has cut itself off. This is probably the easiest check to do and it could provide the answer.

Two possibilities spring to mind that caused problems in the dim and distant past though it could be something else entirely and only good systematic checking will isolate the fault.

I seem to remember the fuel pump relay, which contained electronics, sometimes played hide and seek for some time before they failed altogether.

Not sure if your car uses a hall effect generator for crank or cam position/trigger information but these too can play hide and seek.

I have a vw polo classic 1999, it starts fine goes fine then all of a sudden cuts off. We have replaced the following coil, sparkplugs, feul filter, and battery. What could the problem be.?

could have a wire grounding out or it could be over heating. also on some vehicles if the oil level isn't just right it will turn off as a safety measure

What can I look for to replace on the VW Polo Classic 1996 fireing system. It began to not start at times when run warm after switching it off I found that is no spark and sometimes the spark comes back...

most problems like this are caused by these things 1: Crank sensor 2: Cam sensor or if you have a distributor pick up coil. One of them items is most likely you problem. You could also check your coil but that is less likely to be the problem.

My vw polo keeps cutting out. when it slows down

try cleaning your battery terminals and tightening them. if that doesnt solve the problem your battery or alternator may be dying, some auto parts stores will do a charging system check for free that will tell you if one or the other is bad.

VW Polo Classic, fuel efficiency problem

Has the car been serviced recently?
If not I would suggest getting it done. Not sure if you have diesel or petrol, but oil can thicken causing more load on the motor and airfilters get blocked and can cause a rich fuel mixture.

If petrol you can take out the plugs to check if they are a light brown colour, if very dark or black you need to check and adjust carb/injection settings/filter.Need to know what engine it is really.
