Question about 2002 Honda CR-V

1 Answer

(Honda CR-V 2002 Mod. AUT) My problem is that the car starts but stops after three / four seconds. MIL light is on. When my mechanic is using the Scan Tool, he gets the code "P1298 unknown code" My mechanic could not find the error code (NOT a Honda mechanic). He believes it is Crankshaft sensor. And that's a $900 job :-( After googling the code. And found out that the ELD needs replacing. But I cant find the same problem as I have described. If I replace the ELD (P / N 38255-S5A-003) electronic load detector.). Will the car work normally then? Or do I have other problems. (Does CR-V and Civic have the same error codes?)

P1298 is a result of a alternator wire short. check fuse 6 in the driver's under dash fuse panel and see if it is blown. If it is check the black/yellow wire of the alternator and see if it is shorted to ground. repair the wire and replace the fuse. Also you might get the O2 sensor code as a result of this fuse being blown also.

    Hi.
    Tnx for the response :-)

But are you sure that's it? I will check. I changed the alternator some months back. Maybe I did something wrong.
But.. When I gooled the error-code. Everyone talks about the ELD.

The only thing is that nobody seams to have the same problem that I have..

How would the car behave if it had a broken ELD?

Maybe too late to help but my '02 Civic throws the same code but alone does not cause the MIL to illuminate nor does it cause the problem you described. The only thing I notice is headlights dimming when significant electrical loads switch on (such as radiator fans, blower motor). From what I understand the ELD controls alternator output as fuel saving measure. You should be able to obtain an ELD 38255-S5A-003 for under $40 and it is easy to install. I don't have a specific answer but I do know that there is a problem and if your check engine light (MIL) is on even more reason to have your car checked.

Honda CR-V power loss

With the little information I was given there is two possible answers,The first is not an easy fix or a cheap one and that is a slipping band in the transmission and the second is the speed sensor on the transmission eighther one would require having it looked at by a transmission shop.

2003 Honda Cr-v has the mal light on

You have to get the code read first. There are hundreds of cause for the MIL (malfunction indicator light). Once you know the code then we can help you. Most local auto parts store are more than happy to read the code for free. Don't ask them tho because they are parts people and are not technician. If they were they would not be selling parts. Don't ask a mechanic either because they a tendency to guess. Ask me again I will tell you what to check ones you know the code. I am an expert on OBDII.
