Question about 2005 Subaru Outback

1 Answer

2005 Subaru Outback 3.0 R - Center console maulfunction. For some reason today my audio CD player turned on and was playing when my car was OFF! And the power supply plug was ON too. Normally the audio CD player and the power plug are OFF when car is off and key is out. But for some reason now its not turning off. (The AC, headlights and windows are functioning properly, and are not active when car is off) Any ideas what could that be?

SOURCE: I need to replace rotors on a 2005 subaru outback.

I recommend getting replacement parts at your local dealer. To remove the rotors you will need. A lift or jack (with jack stands)to get the tire off the ground. A 19mm Socket/tire iron to get the lug nuts off. A 14mm wrench to remove the caliper. And a 17mm wrench to remove the caliper cradle. A hammer may be needed to remove the rotor. The rotor itself, if factory has 2 spots where a 10mm bolt could be screwed in to press the rotor off. A hammer is easier and usually more readily available. If you are replacing pads as well, you will need a large pair of channel lock pliers to compress the pistons in the caliper.

SOURCE: Fuel Filter for a 2005 Subaru Outback

In 2005 Subaru moved the fuel filters to the fuel tank for both 4-cyl and 6-cyl cars. What is confusing is the statement in the owner's manual about replacement intervals; the statement actually only applies to 4-cyl cars. Even though the filter is mounted in the tank, this is still a replaceable element on 4-cyl, but not on 6-cyl. The 6-cyl filter element is part of the entire fuel pump assembly (a $300 assembly) and is not sold separately. Therefore the 6-cyl filter is intended to be a "lifetime" part, which really means it gets replaced when the fuel pump fails and the entire pump assembly is replaced.

SOURCE: how do u put timing belt for 2001 subaru outback

This is not your average timing belt replacement due to being a double overhead cam that is also an interferance fit.First remove cooling fans.2-Loosen drive belts and remove.3-Remove crank pully.4-Remove timing covers. You will see 4 cam sprockets.Theses sprockets contain single and double referance marks. You will be using the double referance marks.Rotate engine until the double referance marks are facing each other. This is to be done the same way that the American autos timing Chain systems are done but you will have 2 small double lines to line up not dots. The next step is the most important step and is of utmost imortance.THE CAMSHAFT HAVE TO BE LOCKED IN PLACE--FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT IN BENT VALVES.The cam sprocket holders can be bought or rented. You can make your own as well by making 2 wedges with bolt through the middle.Slip in between sprockets and tighten enough to hold sprockets.Do not use excessive torque while tightening wedges sprockets are not made of steel but rather a composite material.Next you will have to remove the tenioner. The tensioner has to be retracted and pin istalled to hold in retracted position. The tension device has to be retracted with care or will be damaged. You can not exceed 50 pounds pressure on the plunger. The simplest method is to reract while still in vehicle, it takes 15 minutes to properly retract the plunger.By pulling up on the tensioner by hand with about 18 pounds of force --50 will be exerted at the plunger. When fully retracted insert pin to hold in reracted position.Next check to make sure that cam wedges are holding and no sprocket are trying to move, when satisfied remove one of the rollers at the bottom on the side where you left hand would be standing in front.Pull off belt.Replacement belt will have referance marksone line will go to crank sprocket face up others will line up with other sprocket marks.Reinstall roller followed by tensioner then pull pin you have holding tenioner retracted.Remove wedges.Reinstall covers fans belts.Do not be intimitaded by this replacement.Everything is very easy to get to.Be sure cams are locked and that damage is not done to tensioner and it is straight forward.

I have problems from time to time with my home cd player and clean it with an air spray can used to clean computers, seems to work for me, it's a cheap first step.

Disc will not load into subaru forester cd changer

This also happened to my 2002 WRX. I took the CD player out of the console and found a tiny spring (which I could not find) was not in its location, which would actuate the "play CD" switch inside. After a few hours I decided to reassemble the player and use it as a non-CD unit. The radio and cassette player still work, so I purchased a cassette MP3 player adapter so I can plug in my cell phone and play songlists.

Clutch slipping on 20005 subaru outback

Do you have any free play in your clutch pedal? The pedal should move at least 1" before you feel resistance. If you have free play then you probably have a clutch going bad. If there is no free play then you need a clutch adjustment.
