    door locks dont always work

  • jjakubowski Apr 27, 2009

I have a similar problem on just the Drive side door. That door will not lock or unlock automatically, it does work manually. It looks like a locking pin that was inserted from the outside frame of the door broke and fell off so that the locking mechanism is not firmly attached inside the door. I can see (and hear) the door trying to lock and unlock but it does not accuate the lock.

I have this same issue with my car (the exact same year and type). Seems to be a wiring issue. When you say your door won't lock .. is it one door? All doors? The door that doesn't lock .. does it look locked? (mine the knob is down so looks locked even though it is not and another door of mine only can be unlocked manually as the automatic door lock seems to only work on one of my doors now and another door doesn't open at all anymore) More clarification needed (also hoping it will help me figure out mine if you get an answer).

Why don't the rear door locks work anymore?

first is fuses are they good.?
the locks on cars are solenoids.
im guessing all ways to open it fail,
keys, key fobs, and internal controls panels?
no childern locks set (some are hidden on cars)
no drivers, panel , master lock, he pushes it and all locks freeze?
this is a general statement.
so you use a thing like a volt meter. $10 at walfart.
we check for 12vdc across the 2 solenoids.
12vdc when active is good.
0v is bad,
if you get 12v then the solenoid is bad or jammed.
if you get 0v, the controls are bad.
its that simple. and electro magnetic solenoid, is easy to test.
with any voltmeter made.
if the controls are bad we use the same method to check them.
12vdc to the switch it must be.
then you push the rear switch and 12vdc leaves this switch.
if not the switch is bad.(input good)

This is a feature - it is normal, you have power door locks. It should also work that when you lock the drivers door all the other doors lock too.

Power Locks dont work and neither does the trunk release

My car has a fuse box near the battery. when you take the cover off there is a map under the cover to show what all the fuses and relays are. I would check the fuses.

Power door locks do not work at all lights flash when remote is used to unlock doors. automatic lock feature does not work Once manually unlocked, sliding side doors work ok. tail gate can be used to opens...

the reason the locks dont work more then likely there is a code stored in the bcm for a lock output circuit normally caused by one if not both of the sliding door acuators. even if you change the acuators the locks still will not work until the code is cleared.

MR2 DOOR LOCK

sounds like some one tried to break into your vehicle and jammed the door locking rod this would be the most likley guess since you said motor is still working the rod will need to be pulled out and straightened again to factory bend this is critical

and your switch is on the door panel the one that says lock unlock
