1998 gmc truck ac problem I put 2 cans of freon ac pump wont turn on it a few miles then it turn on maybe 10 mminutes driving

if you had to put 2 cans of freon in the ac system then you have wasted your money and time as there is a big leak that the gas is escaping from
ac systems will last forever and require no additional gas if the system is intact but as soon as it needs gas , there is a leak that has to be fixed first
problem you have described is most probably too much gas to start with and the high pressure switch turns the compressor off
then when enough gas leaks out the compressor will run until the low pressure switch switches off as there is not enough gas in the system

Why does my AC turn hot ?

It is a problem with a pressure switch. There are 2 pressure switches, a high and a low pressure switch.

The maximum run time is when the pressure is in a mid-range and neither pressure switch cuts off. What is happening in your case is the pressure is either too high or too low after the A/C runs a bit.

You need to test the system pressure and see what the average pressure reads as. This will give you some idea of whether your system needs more Freon.

If the system is low, you need more Freon and you need to stop the leak. Now if your system is very low, it is probably contaminated with outside air. When you get outside air in the system, bad things happen.

Outside will compress and make pressure; but outside air will not work like Freon and it also contains moisture which will freeze and block passages. That condition requires a Vacuum purge of the system and fixing the leak, then refilling the system with Freon.

Some of the bigger autoparts chains will Loan(deposit required) the proper tools to do some of this yourself. BUT if misused, you could cause more damage than the money you would pay someone to fix this in the first place.

A minimum attempt. Get a bigger can of Freon with a gauge and leak stop inside the can. You may be able to boost the pressure and seal the leaks with the right type of product. It may work. Follow the instructions and see if you can salvage what you have.

Ac compressor cuts on off just had a new one put ,on is it because its low on refridgerant

It could be low on freon or it could be a bad low pressure switch located at or by the accumulator or
ac dryer, if you have a ready made gauge, it will have a gauge, hose and can of freon, it can be closed,
the can can be empty, you just want to make sure there is freon pressure at the low pressure switch. once confirmed and you know there is normal freon pressure, proceed by setting your ac to high, pull off the low pressure switch molex and connect a jumper wire across it, if the ac clutch stays engaged and
the car starts to cool, just replace the low pressure switch, you do not have to pull the freon out to replace just make sure the seal is lubricated with the correct pag oil. if you just had the compressor, replaced you could also have a freon leak. good luck!

When putting freon in my 01 saturn there is a high input valve and a low input valve, which one do i put the refrigerant in/

You put the freon on the low side, it may have a blue cap to let you know its the suction side.

its usually closer to a long round canister called the dryer or accumulator. when putting freon

make sure to run your ac on high while you are recharging the ac. good luck!

Freon was low, the clutch would not stay in very long while trying to add the freon, I continued to put the freon in at a slow pace, after about 18 oz. the clutch did kick in and stayed in through out the...

Sounds like the freon was pretty low.The pressure readings are pretty low indicating possibly a weak compressor or freon is still low. Does this have rear ac as well?l You probably should have evacutated the system and put it into a vacuum. A very useful tool would be to inject a uv dye oil charge into the system and let it run with the ac still cycling which can still be done prior to evacuation. If there any leaks present the dye will seep out the leak and be easily detectable with a uv light.

How to install a new air conditioning compressor

There is danger working with high pressure freon. Make sure to wear eye protection and gloves.

The first problem is that you have to release the old freon.
You can rent equipment for this, or give the freon to a shop that can capture it.

Then you have to disconnect the belt, hoses, wire, and hold down bolts.
If the new pump does not come with a clutch/pulley, then you would have to switch from the old one, but AC clutches tend to be somewhat difficult to remove or require a special tool depending. That are all different.

Read the instructions with the new compressor as to how to install the oil that should come with it.

They reverse the order things were taken off.
Evacuate the system to remove air and moisture with a rented vacuum pump.
Install freon with a hose from the can to the thicker, low pressure, valve, with the engine running and AC on.

But how do you know you need a compressor?
You could just have a leak and are low on freon, which you could tell by bubbles in the sight glass.
Have you put a set of gauges on and seen too little difference between the high and low side?
Are you sure the clutch is working and pulley center spinning?

AC Wont charge after replacing components

whenever the ac system has been opened it should be hooked up to a vacuum pump designed to evacuate the ac system of any foreign debris and oil etc and after should be able to hold a vacuum to show that there are in fact no leaks then if all is ok at this point you can then charge your ac with the proper freon specified for you car when the pressure reaches satisfactory level the ac compressor will then cycle on you should not bypass the low pressure switch

Air cond.

When you start putting the freon in the compressor should kick on and then start pulling it in. Yes it will cycle, as long as all the lights aren't flashing on the temp control.
