Question about Saturn SL2

2 Answers

I just purchased a 1998 saturn sl2 and there is a problem with oil rising into the plugs. my mechanic installed new gasket and sealed the top of the engine and thought the problem was fixed. i took it for a test drive and again oil is rising into the plugs which are located on top of the engine. any suggestions on how this can be resolved?

my friend cleaned the pcv valve and apparently the leak has stopped for good i hope. i don't see how that could have caused such a bad oil leak but i pray it fixed the problem the pcv valve was all stopped up...

Does it have to much oil in the engine? There may be some clogged oil ports in the engine or a malfuntioning oil pump. You could try doing an engine flush to see if it will help the problem. They sell it at the parts store for around ten bucks. Hope this helps.

I would first do a compression test, and maybe a lak down test. These will determine the condition of the valve seats, and piston rings. Usually oil on spark plugs is due to weak piston rings.

97 saturn sl2 died while driving , pulled first spark plug boot and found filled with oil

The head gasket needs replaced. This particular Saturn is known for having this exact problem, and 9 out of 10 times, replacing the head gasket fixes it. I just did it myself for $35.

Go to checker/autozone and get a head gasket (should just need the gasket and not the entire kit) and a tube of RTV silicon grease to help make the seal.

Unhook everything from the engine (plugs, wires, etc, and unscrew the head. There should be about 10 or so screws surrounding the black plastic head cover. You'll find things a mess in here, but clean it up best you can. Remove the old gasket and clean the entire gasket area completely and make sure its dry. Put down your RTV grease, the new gasket, some more RTV, and screw the head back on. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T SCREW IT TOO TIGHT. The screws only need to be snug. Tighten it like you would a spark plug. Put everything back together and you should be good to go. Might run like **** the first half mile or so.

Oil leaking into sparkplug wells

oil on the spark plugs means either you have bad valve seals or bad rings. Valve seals are fairly cheap and easy to replace. Bad rings requires a full rebuild of the motor.
Also, did you over heat this vehicle?

Code reads number 3 cylinder misfire on my 98 saturn sl2. Changed the plugs and wires. Whats my next move?

I'm having a similar problem with my 2001 Saturn SL-2. My mechanic says this is due to a manufacturing defect in the cylinder casting. He says my cylinder looks like swiss cheese. If is affecting my fuel flow and, caused a small coolant leak into the head gasket. The only cure is to purchase a brand new head cylinder and replace. Estimated cost; $1,600.

Car heastitates and sputters when trying to accelerate

on the 98 saturn most likely you would be better off with a new motor but the sputter is probably do to lack of spark ...

in the tune up did you remember sparkplug wires , spark plugs , and it could also be the distributor

2001 Saturn, blows Blue smoke only when ideling

It likely has worn out or hardened valve seals in the head(s). Oil is leaking into the cylinders through these seals. I'd try a seal softening agent in the oil before doing a valve job. Check your local auto supply for such stuff. A good mechanic can replace the seals without tearing off the heads.

1994 saturn sl2 automatic, with really bad oil leak.

There are only two paths for oil there. The rear main, and a oil galley plug a little higher up, about 2 o'clock.
