Question about 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue

1 Answer

2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue. Car does not like to start right away. Have to pump the gas if it has been sitting for awhile. If it's been running and is turned off, it will turn on again right away. Just replaced the fuel filter. Recently changed air filter, and spark plugs. Runs fine after starting. I'm thinking it's the fuel injector. Also reads Error Code P0440. So wondering if, and how, the two might be connected. Thanks

You're probably right about the injectors. You probably have one or two leaking into the cylinder wich bleeds off the pressure in the fuel rail. You shouldn't have to pump the gas though. Try turning the ignition on and off two or three times to prime the fuel lines and it should start up. However, I would look into finding out which ones are leaking and get them replaced. Hope this helps

I have a 2000 oldmobile intrigue and i have to push the gas pettle a few times to make it start and then it stops also when i am driving i fixed the switch awhile back and the airpump and sensor already

Not sure which switch you fixed or what the air pump is for..
What about the fuel -- do you run your tank low on fuel or more towards full -- this time of the year it's better to run more full than empty.

The fuel quality also sucks - have you changed out the fuel filter? Added any fuel additives for cleaning the system -- Lucas is strongly recommended, a bit pricey, but worthy.
Best regards

On hot days when I stop for gas, I shut the car

Fuel pump worn out and is weak, when the fuel is warm the pump expands and the fuel pressure is good. When the colder gas is added or when the gas has cooled down the fuel pump.
The pump can not create enough pressure to run the fuel injector due to the piston and sleeve in the pump are worn out, you might get another year if you lucky by replacing your fuel filer.
Start with the simple and replace your fuel filter and check your fuel pressure readings at the shredder valve on your fuel injector rails. You should have i think 56 PSI to run them properly.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

Jerky accelerating, late response to gas being pressed

Well for one, make sure you speed up slowly, dont HIT the accelerator. It may also be problems with your fuel filter. After you are stoped fuel stops running through the fuel pump/filter and then when you start going its starts to run through again and it cant keep up so it gets bubbles in it and doesnt move throught the filter easily hence the jerky accelerating. Good Luck

Start and stop

Top candidates for this problem are:
Clogged Fuel filter
Faulty Fuel pump
Clogged fuel injectors
Dirty / worn spark plugs

Of these, only the clogged fuel injectors are likely to respond to a gas tank additive, and even then you need to get the right kind of additive.
If your fuel filter has not been changed in a while (couple years), start with this. It is fairly easy to change. The fuel filter is under the car near the the driver's side rear door.
If this problem started "suddenly," then the fuel pump might be the culprit.
Fuel injector / spark plug issues are not likely to stop the engine right away, but would tend to cause it to miss cylinders, idle rough, or start rough.
