I can not locate where the starter is. I have talked to a few mechanics and i cant seem to locate it at all almost like its missing. I was told it would be rear of the engine above the drive shaft and I cant seem to find it..Is there any detailed picture or diagram that could help me out with that.

It is located on the back side of the engine just above the axle and tucked underneath the intake manifold .If you will look at the top back of transmission housing where it mates to the engine you will see a hump where the nose of starter fits in from the other side. There are two bolts there are the hump and another coming in from the starter side.I dont have a picture but it will be an electric motor about 10 inches long and about 5 wide. Will have a large guage wire going to it from the battery and a small guage wire from ignition switch.

It will be located on the side of the engine, where the engine and transmission hook together. You wil have to crawl under the car to see it.It is attached to the engine and it turns on the flywheel which is fastened to the transmission. I don't know what year or size your engine is so look on both sides. You are looking for a round object about 4 inches across (diameter) and about 6 inches long. It should also have a smaller cylinder on top of it with wires attached to the front of the small cylinder. Hope this helps.

Car Starts Intermittently

There is a few things that it could be.... The Starter could have been jammed and by rotating the Crank, it is now aligned. It could have a bad connection (Ground or Power) on the Starter. It could have corrosion or a Stuck Starter Relay or the Ignition Switch and then list goes on and on. Any one of these problems could have caused the issue. As a Mechanic, I would tell you this... Clean your Connectors and tighten them and count your blessings and if it continues to work, then you are home free.

1996 ford contour needs to be recalled. Dome lite and brake lites stay on when door is closed causing battery to drain prematurely.

If the experts told Dan to get rid of the car, then I am in total agreement !
I walked into a Ford garage a few years back to get some advice on a friend's Contour I was putting a timing belt on. I talked for a bit with a mechanic there, and it seemed all the ford mechanics there were pretty much in agreement that the Ford Contour was one poorly designed and executed product that they'd rather not see come in their shop. Expensive to repair and often made the owners mad from all the hassle.

Attend to one of the door switches for the dome light, and see if the brake switch on the brake pedal can be adjusted. IDK, do these models have a body control module? I hope not for your sake. (Trade it off!)

Where can I get a Transfer Stub Shaft for a 2001 Daewoo Lanos without having to buy a whole new Transmission?

I've seen these stub shafts on Subaru transaxles. To replace them, the transaxle has to be removed and taken apart.
Have you checked with the Daewoo dealer to see if you can order them?
You might go to a salvage yard and ask them if they could run a check on a nation-wide locater for the part. If you have to buy a new transmission, this would be the place to find that, also.

Cant find fender, or firewall mounted starting solenoid

Follow the thick wire from the starter's solenoid, back to the battery, if there is a unit with 2 connections (inline with the wire) then thats the second solenoid.

try over riding the starter relay on the fender ,it has one there right?. dont go to a mechanic yet. the engine aint seized. if it doesnt have this relay then i would get the alternator tested. if you want to test it yourself it can be costly for the right equip. autozone usually tests for free. i dont know were you live so if theres not an autozone. let me know if you cant get it tested.
