Volkswagen Beetle 2000 TDE

My Actron code reader reads a code of P1557 (says idle speed control). The check engine light came on and would not go off. Now the car will not start. Any solution to this problem?

How do i manual reset vw beetle check engine light

disconnect the battery and let it sit for about 30 minutes then reconnect. that should clear the codes. or get an ODBII code reader (about $40 ) and push the clear button. that's the easiest and you can read the codes too.

Go to your local auto parts store, typically there they have the readers that can not only read what's causing the check lights, but can also clear them if you request. Most locations do it for free.

Setting idle speed on a 2001 vw beetle 2.0-

The engine doesn't have a mechanical idle speed adjustment - VW/Audi have a software called VagCom (the diagnostic software they use) that is used to adjust the idle - it's completely computer-controlled. You have to change the idle speed using the software.
