Chances are the check engine light came on also. You should have the vehicle scanned for codes, it could be that the output speed sensor has failed. This could put the transmission into limp mode (second gear) and cause the speedometer not to work. I would guess this to be an inexpensive repair, .6 hours labor plus the cost of the sensor, $16.99 at O'reillys ...I hope this helps

On the 99 concord ,speedometers disconect at the gauge behind the dashboard and the shifting problem buy your self a transmition kit and change it should fix your shifting problem. Let me know the outcome. oh ya make sure you lossen the bolts at the back of the transmition pan and drain oil out the back by losen then pry with screw driver. trust if you drain from the front your arms are gonna get coverd in trany oil.

Where is the speed sensor located on a 2002 Chrysler Concorde

Beware speed sensors seldom fail. Chrysler products transmission have a limp mode where they only shift to second gear when something goes wrong and many times when nothing is wrong. If the speedometer fails it goes to limp. If an OBD scan gives a transmission code sometimes clearing the code will end the problem. When driving if the transmission shifts one time as it should the sensor is working.

My 98 concorde is stuck in second gear and the speedometer quit working at the same time what would make it do this

I would say the speed sensor in the transaxle is the problem with both issues. The body computer needs the speedo to tell which gear to use, and second gear is the default when the system is in fail mode.

99 300m wont shift out of 2nd gear and speedometer does not work,,i get codes p1696 and p1698 ,put new speed sensor in still doesn't work, any suggestions,,or how do you reset tcm

You need a reader that can cancel the trasnmission codes. Look to Advance or one of those parts places. Call to ask them if their ODB tool can cancel Transmission codes first before you go there.

Transmission problems

It sounds like the output speed sensor is bad, but without a code it is hard to say. It will cause it to go into limp in mode which is 2nd gear without an up or downshift.
