I have a 2004 Dodge Stratus (4cyl) that idles rough (almost stalls out), dies on start up and recently had a flashing engine light (backfire error). Any suggestions? No other issues, water pump and timing...

Could be the idle air control, once these start hanging up inside, they can cause as variety of problems with idle speed (can become wildly random) or simply a failure to idle at all.

These links should help:
Where is the idle air control valve located on 2004 Dodge Stratus

This could also be caused by a failing ignition pack.

Idle control valve

The best way to replace the idle air control is to remove the the whole throttle body housing, You may want to remove the IAC valve and clean it internally with carburotor cleaner or even brake cleaner.2_23_2012_7_07_37_am.gif2_23_2012_7_08_18_am.gifThe engine ECM uses the IAC to maintain the RPM at 700+- 50 RPM

Trying to find the loacation of the IAC valve on a 1998 Dodge Stratus

I think you mean the idle air control motor which is
located under the air cleaner assembly on the throttle
body. You may need a repair manual, cause if you
want to replace it you have to remove the throttle body.

Need to know where the crankshaftpositionsensor is located on a 2005 stratus 2.4lt engine

I am assuming your Stratus is a Sedan with the DOHC 4-cylinder engine. If so this might help. Do you know where your PCV valve is? (The PCV valve is on the driver-side of the engine up close to the top. It is a little black plastic cylinder with a vacuum tube coming out that goes up to the air intake fairing up near the fan.) The CSPS is right below the PCV valve. It has an electrical connecter with a little red release clip where the wires plug in. The sensor is about 3-4 inches wide and shaped like a rounded diamond with a raised circle in the middle. It is held on by 2 small bolts. I hope this helps.
