Question about 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier

2 Answers

Just got the air compressor replaced in a 1997 Chevy Cavalier. Air worked for two weeks, but sometimes the temperature gage went to three quarters. Relaced hose that goes to the heater core, but the gage still goes hot, and the air blows out warm. What is the problem?

Not the fan, had it checked and it turns on at 223 degrees. The mechanics said that they don't know what is wrong with it. They blew an air hose between the condensor and the radiator to remove debris, but that still didn't work. They said something could be blocking air flow. PLEASE HELP!!!

You have to check the the electric fan(In engine bay in front of radiator) goes on when A/C is on.

If you say the fan goes on at 223 Deg', that seems way too high, water boils at 212F Deg'
Most A/C systems I have worked with have an over ride relay to turn on electric fans when A/C is switched on.

Also: You may have to check operation of viscous fan (If fitted to this model)

Ac blowing hot air tried to recharge but compressor would not take charge, gage needle went to yellow could over charge stop compressor 00linc ls v8

in this particular problem firstly you have to analyse the power ampere of ac because sometimes power not flows properly and due to this ac compressor cant work properly because they cant get their requirement power . secondly you can check gas in compressor because sometimes due to tiny wholes gas gets released and it causes in hot air blowing

Why did the can of R134 freeze when I charged the air conditioner on my 97 Chevy Cavalier? The low side line to my air conditioner (where i hooked up the can of r134) froze as well and my air conditioner...

History?was it working before? you cant just hook up a hose and put it in. First find out why compressor wont run, If it needs compressor, it needs a drier and orifice tube, put on a vaccuum pump for 1 hr then recharged with the correct amount of r134. You need someone who knows a/c to look at it.

2000 Chevy Cavalier making a noise when air is shut off

This problem sounds like the aircompressor pully, the bearing is shot.
With the engine running and the air conditioner off there is a grinding noise, look at the compressor pully, does it wobble? Then turn on the air conditioner and the noise stops, look at the compressor pully again, the wobble stops? If so that's the problem.

Service port

It seems that you have a leak, best bet is to bring it to someone with a set of gages to check the pressures while the ac system is operating. The high side should be about 150-200 psi and low side between 30-40psi with those numbers you should be running very cool. If its not that high then you most probably have a leak in the system most probably at one of the recently replaced parts or a new place, fill the system with a uv dye and recharge. drive for a week or two and check with a uv light.

1997 Chevrolet Cavalier A/C does not work

Your compressor's shaft seal is the most likely culprit. If you can find someone to replace the shaft seal and body gaskets in your compressor, you should be fine. Cavaliers use a V5 compressor, an excellent but leak-prone when unused.
