This is one of two things, first make sure the switch is off, this switch is what you use to adjust the brightness of the dash lights at night and is located on the dash, if this switch is all the way up it turns on the lights, i think this is your problem because the other thing that would cause this would be a bad door switch but if this was the cause then the door ajar symbol would also be on on the dash, start with the dimmer switch first good luck.
After checking the switch position look to see if your door switch has spring action to it and it moves smoothly. If all ok and the lights still stay on then you will need a multimeter for the next part. First I would start with the door switch, check to see if it has a single wire or two. If single is a ground wire. Remove the switch and clean around the hole and the switch itself with a wire brush. If there is any dirts or rust the switch wont ground out with the door open. If it has two wires then it still couild be a ground wire or one will be live (12vlt) and the other is the return. Pull the switch and check with meter for continuity with the switch pushed and released. If the meter doesnt move then its the switch. If you have continuity then you need to know if you are supposed to have DC votage there. a wireing diagram will help with the next part. Check with meter to see if you have voltage. Usually 12vltdc. If you have voltage through the door switch then on to the dash mounted one. Again you have to pull the dash switch and using the wiring diagram check for the right voltage. The switch will have a detent ball / pen that you will feel when you move the switch to its brightes point. Max out the switch for the brightes and then back off past the detent. You then should not have any voltage coming out of the switch then. All of this info is the basics of the light system, again this depends on your wiring set up.

SOURCE: door open light &dome light stay on
Hello, Friend
I had a friend that had the same issue. I had the same issue with my 99 Bonneville the outside door handle and the door latch itself where sticking because of dirt or some other substance. I kept my car very clean and I also cleaned the door jambs after every wash, but still there was a sticking in the latch and handle.
I could be driving down the road and the lights would be on. and I would open the window (with the doors locked and flick the outside handle and the interior lights would turn off. then I knew it was the outside handle that had a censor that was sticking. Why does the out side handle even have a censor? Good question. It seems the more sophisticated our cars become the more probability of issues from the littlest things.
Thank you

some times the door switch can be faulty. and it may be coincidence that the interior switch is faulty too. i have owned alot of S- series trucks and a few of them have done this to me. you need to individually check each door for switch contact
SOURCE: Dome light and reading lamps stay on and will not cut off.
your door close switch is non-functional. its located in the door jamb. its a black button the size of a shirt button. usually held in by one or two screws.
there is one for each door.
SOURCE: dome light stays on
the switch in your door that lets your truck know when the door is open is stuck. It is cheap to replace and it is not hard at all. 30 minutes maybe.
SOURCE: 2003 Chevy Tahoe courtesy (dome) lights do not
They don't shut off until they sit dormant for about a minute. They are set to delay as a courtesy when there is minimal light outside. **Please rate me on this answer
