Question about 2001 Daewoo Leganza

1 Answer

This is my problem... I needed to get my car smogged, but the check engine light was on. Took to to a local smog station that had replaced a sensor for me in the past in order to pass smog. They could not fix it. Put car in dealership garage for repairs and to date, the transmission module sensor (computer) went out and the ignition sensor (computer) was out also. The mechanic replaced both and now the code P1702 comes up. What does that code mean? My car still won't pass smog....

Error code P1702 TRS Circuit Intermittent Malfunction. This code indicates a malfunction in the engine speed signal......as this signal is essential to the transmission (to determine shift points)...........it would set the check engine light........and the vehicle will no longer behave normally. You need first to check the related wiring and connectors
Transmission range circuit intermittent.... Well, intermittent usually means bad connection or problems in the wiring.

Passing smog

I doubt it as you have stated that it shows a calibration fault . This will be from the variable valve timing assembly on the cam shaft/s that is altering the valve timing. The timing chain may be faulty but you should be hearing it to be that bad.

Insufficient data from O2 sensor for smog

To review - - after you disconnect the battery you need to drive the vehicle at highway speed for 20 - 50 miles to allow the computer to "re-learn" the data parameters. This means getting the engine up to operating temp and speeds of at least 50 mph.
If the engine does not reach operating temp some of the sensors will not be active yet.

My CE light is on. The code is PO420. It is a 2002 Corolla. Smog is due. Two years ago, the same thing happened. I bought a scanner, cleared the light. Took it to smog. Passed. But this year, I cleared...

The P0420 is for the catalyric converter, you'll have to have it replaced. It will fail the test as long as the light is on. Clearing the code information also clears the monitor infor, to pass the monitors required you'll have to put some miles on it in both city and highway driving, not all monitors may be required so check with your local smog station which ones have to pass.

Failed CA smog test "MIL/Check Engine Light", computer data wiped

No this is not right. If you remove the battery everything resets anyways. If they are talking about relearn procedure, it should only require 50 miles. But if the light is on than either they did something wrong, created another problem, or there was already another one existing. Have the code read and let me know what it is. I'm in Ca too and used to prep european cars for smog, so I do know what I'm looking for. How did the rest do? What were the readings(if possible)?

2003 Toyota Camry Se V6 has a check engine light after failing smog check test by Fault Code P0500. Unsure why it failed just had some transmission & engine work done at the dealership a couple of...

I had the same problem, then took my car to an expert repair shop who diagnosed the sensors and
found no problem with the car. They notified the DMV who was unaware of the problem, who then told the repair shop (John's Bascom Automotive) that they will adjust their computer system to allow a "two speed idle test". My bill was $95 and I still have to pay for a smog test after driving around for
a couple of days to clear the computer monitors, a fair amount and I gladly paid it.

John advised me that I'd get no satisfaction with Toyota or the DMV. I went to the dealership where I
bought the car and they said that the smog stations don't know what they're doing. They charge
about $100 and work around the P0500 code but it takes them about two hours to do this. I told
them that I should have been notified about the dyno none-compatability by Toyota and that Toyota
should have notified the DMV beforehand. I wonder how many speed sensors are being replaced by
unknowing smog shops around the state. I got Toyota's main customer support phone number and
will call them Monday. I'm going to get my pound of flesh ($95 worth) from the DMV next week also.

01 Ford Expedition. Check Engine light and failed Smog check.

whoever installed the egr valve, if it wasnt you, just cleared the engine codes, thus giving you this problem once again. Get it scanned at autozone, and go from there.

1996 Nissan Maxima GXE Fail Smog Check Due To ECM System Failure

There is no way to fix this issue according to my Nissan Dealer Service Manager. The monitors will not run and therefore the vehicle will not pass smog. If you need assistance from California's SMOG authority they are called "The Referee" and you can call them at 1-800-622-7733.
