Question about 2000 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

2000 Ford explorer has been sitting for 6 months. Nothing wrong with it. Replaced batter today, and it turns over just fine, but won't start. Has gas. Was running just fine until it got parked for six or seven months. Any tips for getting it to start. Sounds like it just isn't getting any gas.

Have you put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail,
to check for pressure?
Do you hear the fuel pump running, when you
cycle the key?
Did you check for spark?

I think when you asked the question,
you knew the answer

2000 ford 4.0 explorer cranks but fails to start. It acts like it starts after sitting all night but then only cranks, what is wrong?

Check for spark to the sparkplug. Try a shot of starting fluid as having gas pumping and having the fuel injectors opening are 2 different things. If you have spark, then the fuel injectors may not be working. Quick diagnosis is to use starting fluid and see if engine tries to run. This indicates problem is not lack of spark but lack of fuel getting into cylinders.

Why didn't the mechanic continue on & resolve the issue?

You don't have the experience to do so, as your here

No one can tell you what is wrong without the vehicle to test,

Cranks strongly, but won't turn over / start.

it might be the fuel pump take the output hose off of it and crank the engine and see if fuel comes out of the pump if it does the fuel pump is not the probelem. if it doesnt come out or if it slowly comes out than you need a new fuel pump

My 2000 ford explorer suddenly wont start... the battery was relpaced less than 6 months ago. the key turns but nothing happens, no dash lights or any starting sounds, and at the same time my hood does not...

does the battery have a full charge to it? If so clean battery terminals and chck battery cable at starter make sure its getting good contact. Make sure battery ground is making good contact at engine. Can you jump the car off? If so take off positive battery terminal while the car is running if the car dies altenaters bad replace it.

Car wouldn't start couple of times, had to be jumped but started right over. Mechanics ran all sorts of diagnostics but found nothing wrong, batter fine, alternator fine, nothing wrong with codes. That...

theres a tsb for a faulty fuel pump........ Access the fuel pump connector.
Monitor voltage between the White/Red (WH/RD) and Black/Yellow (BK/YE) wires, leaving the fuel pump connected. Also monitor the fuel pressure.
Voltage will normally be about 6-8v at idle and will increase with load on the engine.
Drive the car to try and duplicate the complaint. When the problem is occurring, check the fuel pressure vs. voltage to the fuel pump. If pressure is dropping but voltage is the same or increasing, check the connections right at the fuel pump. If OK, drop the fuel tank, inspect the lines internally and replace the fuel pump as needed.
