I have a 96 750 it rained the window was cracked and now the car starts but the gas pedal isnt responding what can be the problem

They have a drive by wire. Rather than the conventional pedal/cable assembly there is a sending unit mounted to the pedal that sends a signal to the computer. Spray some contact cleaner on it and it should work.

Motor starts and idles ok but dosent respond to throttle.

It's possible your control "computer" had a glitch. If it happens again, or if you're just curious, have a diagnostics check. A simple check is free at many auto parts stores. I hope this is helpful.

Runs but when i give it gas it does not respond. then i can turn it off restart it and responds normal but engine light stays on.

if you have a check engine light on then you have a code set in the computer that needs to be pulled.by doing this you will have a starting place to diagnois the problem.it could be a sensor or it could be a fuel problem.start with the code first then go from there.

When gas is press engine lacks power it only goes 40 miles per hour or below

Hi there,

This can be one of many possibilities - either electrical, fuel or exhaust.

Your vehicle's Onboard Diagnostic system will identify the culprit, so have your system checked to extract the code/s.

However, if you can't get the codes, I would suspect the following possible faults:

1) Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) - this tells the engine computer 'how far' you are depressing the accelerator pedal. Then engine computer then tells the EFI to respond accordingly.

2) Vacuum Leak - if you noticed the problem gradually getting worse, it's possible small vacuum leak has progressed to the point your EFI system cannot respond properly.

Without querying your vehicle's computer, I personally would suspect the TPS. You can measure the the readings of the TPS using a multimeter - check it is to manufacturer's specifications.

Cheers,
