Same problem, can here what sounds like a relay clicking in dash. Could this be pump going bad or a short. Does eventually blow fuse.

Keep blowing Fuel pump fuse 95 Buick Park Avenue

You may have a short in wiring to fuel pump. Try this! remove the wires from fuel pump, then turn key to start the car briefly. If the fuse does not blow, its likely the fuel pump is drawing to much current and blowing the fuse. God-Bless!

Electical trouble shooting

Your solution is simple,1998 Jeep Cherokee. The ASD relay gives power to the fuel pump the injectors and distributor also the Oxygen sensor heater circuit. 1st check the fuel pump fuse make sure its not open. If it is open you are dealing with a short to power located at the Oxygen heater circuit, these wire are prone to short together you may have to open the wiring harness and make the inspection if power steering fluid or transmission fluid has degraded the wires you will have to solve for the fluid leaking to protect the harness(wires) from shorting

My fuse for the fuel pump keeps blowing. the fuel pump was replaced. it was intermitant now as soon as you put the fuse in it pops. Short in the wiring somewhere?

When the fuel pump is replaced, often the correct wiring harness needs to be spliced in. The original wiring harness was more than likely reused. It is very possible the wiring harness is the cause for the short. Other than that, check where the wires go from the fuel pump wiring harness to the connection to where they go back inside the car. Corrosion is often another problem.

How do i replace the wiring harness in a 94 dodge shadow, there is a short leading to the fuel pump

You may not be able to replace the harness 1. it most likely not even available 2. its too expensive and 3. the labor involved would be huge. You will need to find it and repair it. it always helps to tell what engine/ trans you have, the wiring diagrams are different. The white wire will be power and it comes from the fuel pump relay (drivers strut tower, inner relay) take a test light and put one lead on positive battery terminal, now disconnect the relay and connect test light to the white wire, now disconnect the fuel pump and if the light is on, there is a short, and you will need to follow the harness and wiggle it until the light flickers, then you may find the short.

Put new fuel pump now the pump runs but the power wire only has 7 volts of power how much is it suppose to have

If your pump is running on 7vdc, you are not getting enough fuel pressure to sufficiently supply the engine with gas, and it will run rough, sputter, surge, backfire, all manner of unpleasant things. If this is the case, and you are reading 7vdc while the pump is connected, this could indicate a problem within the fuel pump or fuel pump electrical circuit. Turn the car off, unplug the fuel pump wire harness from the fuel pump, insert your voltmeter leads into the vehicle-to-fuel pump wire harness connector, then have a helper turn the key to "on." You will have two-three seconds before the computer senses no fuel pump return signal, and shuts off voltage to the fuel pump. Observe the voltage coming from the vehicle wire harness to the fuel pump connector, it should be 11-13vdc. If it is, and only drops to 7vdc when connected, there is a partial short in the wiring from the point the fuel pump plugs into the harness, or the pump just creates a large voltage drop. Every device causes a voltage drop while in use, but 5vdc is too much of a loss. Re-examine the fuel pump installation, and make sure there are no obstructions over the fuel pump inlet, and that the wire harness inside the tank is okay.

I just replaced the fuel pump again, it engaged and pump worked, once! what could cause this? any relays or fuses to look at?

It's common for the wire harness from the pump to the frame to go bad when the fuel pump is replaced. The harness is around $15.00 and should be replaced the same time the fuel pump is replaced. If you can get to the wire harness to move it around and see if the fuel pump would start to work, then you know it's the wire harness and you can also disconnect the wire harness at the frame to check for 12v. Food for thought also, was the fuel filter replaced shortly after the fuel pump??? It may have picked up dirt that got in the gas tank and is not to dirty to let fuel flow through. Good luck and keep me posted.

Birning the fesue for the fuel pump

You could have a short in the wire harness to the fuel pump or the fuel pump it self is bad or the relay has gone bad also. Start with the replacement of the fuel pump relay and also find the wire harness to the fuel pump sending unit from the frame to the gas tank and disconnect the connections. If the fuse does not blow when the connection to the fuel pump is disconnected, then it's a go chance that it's the fuel pump. If the fuse blows and the wire harness is disconnected, then the problem is towards the fuel pump relay and fuse block. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 100% again.
