Question about 2003 Nissan 350Z

1 Answer

Shaking in the front when braking at high speeds. Already changed rotors (twice) and brake pads. I have new tires and have had them spin balanced. I've seen this problem on other forums. Is there a suspension issue here we're all overlooking?

Does steering wheel shake only when brakes appliad at higher speeds?if so its the front rotors or rotors conforming to runout of front hubs.have rotors turned with on car lathe and make sure lugnuts are torqued to specs.even under the best conditions and service youll be lucky to get 15k without reoccurance.very common on all vehicles with cast iron brake rotors...unfotunately.

When does it shake? Low speed, off brake... Bad tires. High speed off brake... Balance tires. High speed on brakes... Rotors. Trucks and AWD can be transfer case, diff, ujoints, out of balance driveshaft and tires. Have your car lifted and walk around it, always check tires, ballpoints, tie rode ends

the struts in the front are broke this is what keeps your truck off the tire its sits inside the spring and if they break this will mess with the way it brakes and turns :) hope this helps

Steering wheel shaking at higher speeds and when braking

The shaking is probably caused by two seperate things. First shaking at high speeds is usually tire balance. Second the shaking when braking is usually the front pads are worn and the rotors need refinishing. If you have these two things checked and corrected your problem will go away.

When i hit the brakes or go over 60 miles the wheels will start to shake

It sounds like you may have more than one problem here. First I would investigate Front End Alignment and ALL Steering/Suspension components for excessive wear and/or looseness. Second I would Inspect the Brake Rotors and Pads for uneven wear. Third I would check the Tires for uneven wear and balance. Many things can cause these symptoms: Worn out Ball Joints, defective Shock Absorbers/Struts. Worn out Tie Rod Ends, Idler Arm, even the Steering Gear Box can be part of the problem. Brake Rotors and Tires can be out of Balance with either one causing the problem over 60 MPH. I strongly suggest having your vehicle inspected by an ASE Certified Front End and Brake specialist immediately. It is very dangerous to drive a vehicle with these symptoms.

I have had the front rotors resurfaced 2 or 3 times and replaced twice once with toyota parts-the pulsating always reappears after awhile when braking. What up with that?

its the disks or you call them rotors! there warped again harsh braking and stopping from high speed will warp the disks, having them "refased" is a wast of money!! that wont last five minuets,,,,puting on new disks and new pads will put it right, but stoping hard from hight speed will only warp them again also have your "abs" looked at as this could be were the problem is, and not the disk at all,

Steering wheel shimmys at speeds 35 and up just changed rotors and pads no play in new wheel bearings doesnt shimmy when i brake though. any help would help greatly thanks

If it shimmies with the brakes applied, it's a rotor problem....but like you say, it shimmies just at a certain speed with no brakes applied, check tires for out-of-roundness. If they look ok, you are looking at a balance problem with the tires.

Front end problems

You seem to have more than one problem, first of all the balding tire you have a negative camber problem that can be adjusted by getting a wheel alignment done. The shaking problem while applying brake could mean that you have bad/warped front rotors. It can also mean bad Tie rods. Lastly it can mean that the front tires needs to be high speed balanced. Good Luck

Shaking while braking at speeds 40 mph +

Anti-lock brakes mean the car shakes when the brake is applied. Try pumping the brakes.
