It sounds like you may have a bad circuit board assembly for the lights which will have to be replaced.check the wiring to the assembly for damaged plug or corrosion and for power at the plug for the tail lights.

Have you checked the earth ?? try running your own earth (ground ) and see what happens ,if the ground or earth wire is faulty then the indicator will come on when teh stop light is applied ,but as this is an american vehicle where the stop light is the indicator as well it might not show ,our europeon vehicles use a separate indicator light which is yellow so thats when you notice it as the indicator and stop light all come on dimly because they are different circuits

If the right side works it's not your flasher, Its your left side bulb, either front turn signal or rear tail light bulb.

98 Chevy Tahoe, drivers side rear tail light assembly wont work, brake / turn signal. Replaced entire assembly, it worked for about 3 days then stopped working again. I need to get this fixed before I get...

I've got the same problem on 98 GMC Sierra.

I'm an electrical engineer, I checked the electrical diagrams and verified that there is no problem in the rear lamp assembly or wiring. With the light assembly unplugged, I can actually watch the blinker and brake signals operate with a voltmeter. The Tail light works OK.

It simply won't provide enough current to light the bulbs.

I'm afraid that it's melted one of a pair of normally closed contacts inside the blinker switch that feed the brake and turn separately on each side.

How do i change the tail light on a 2004 tahoe

Open rear hatch. Remove two mounting screws at the side corner which mount the tail light assy to the body. The whole tail light assy can now be removed. Twist desired bulb holder counterclock wise to remove, then pull bulb to remove. Reinstall in reverse order.
