How do you check the transmission fluid and what type of transmission fluid does the 1995 Ford Contour use?

If this an auto trans then type F. When you go to buy the fluid at your local auto store ask them and they will know for sure as they have it in thier system. That way you are absolutely sure and if they sell you the wrong stuff it is in thier hands.

Try changing the transmission filter and fluid, especially if it smells burnt, unless you have changed them recently. You really should change the filter (some people don't), to be sure fluid is getting up into the trans. Make sure you use the recommended fluid, not one that says on the label that it will work in all these different transmissions. Your trans dipstick will probably tell you what kind to use.

How do I remove the Speedo cable in a 1995 ford aspire

I am not convinced that the speedo cable is a good place to add the fluid.
If auto trans , should have dipstick tube. If manual trans , should be plug on top , or half way up side of trans that can be unthreaded.

yes you add yout fluid through your dip stick. go to your auto parts store and get the auto trans fluid for fords, yes there are several different types, ford and chevy use two different types. just ask for the trans fluid for a ford auto trans

Transmition slip

Change the fluid and the filter and see if that helps, if it continues to slip then the forward clutch pack is worn out and the trans will need to be torn down and repaired. :)
