I have the same vehicle with the same symptoms i just went ahead and put another transmission on it your best bet is to look up junk yards in the internet and take it from there is cheaper than to rebuild they have good prices good luck

Why does my 1995 jeep cherokee not want to drive allof a sudden

the enigne is bad.
the tranny is bad.
the tires are flat
the fuel tank is empty?
brakes locked,
In 4wd on dry pavement can be a huge error.

does it start.? the engine? and idle correctly?
does it move correctly in 1st gear.?
does the transmission slip? in drive? or Reverse??
if you dont know what slip is , you need a mechanic or even a jr. mech.

I have a friend with a 1993 jeep grand cherokee with automatic transmission. It shifts lazily or slips from 1st to 2nd gear. Is there an adjustment to fix this or what else could cause this?

Can not fix slipping once it starts

Only a complete rebuild for that

If it started today & you can right home, then
maybe you could diagnose it

If you have been driving it slipping your done

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Shifting

Did you ever get that problem diagnosed? My 2008 Jeep GC recently and frequently gets stuck and does not accelerate past 1st gear. We have to pull over put it into park then shift into D-rive again. Then the transmission accelerates prperly. The only way we knew this was the big trucks on my job site have to do the same thing. A temporary resolve. Hoping it's not the transmission slipping and needing repair.

My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee transmission slips in overdrive

sounds like a possible shift solenoid. If it's due for a fluid change, do that and add a container of lucas trans conditioner. Likely you have a drain plug on the pan so if the fluid was recently serviced, just drain a quart out and replace with the additive, then top off.
If the condition does not change within a week, likely you will need better diagnosis from a reputable trans shop.

Transmission not working when hot

well sounds pretty bad, did it start slipping before all of this and gradually get worst? anyways when this happens the cheapest diagnostic fix is pull all of the bolts on the bottom of the tranny to dran all the fluid, not sure if this tranny has a filter but pretty positive it does, pop a new filter in there you will see it when you you drop the pan, let all fluid drain and refill with the specific type of tranny fluid it calls from you can find the quanity and type from the auto store when you get the parts, substitute one of the quarts with lucas stop slip and hopefully it will bring the tranny out of it. otherwise your bands are shot and need a rebuild/tranny replacement. good luck and take care
