Does the starter make one click when you turn the key to the start position? If so, your starter solenoid contacts are worn/burnt. You can either replace the starter (expensive), or remove the starter & have the contacts replaced (inexpensive); Starter contact replacements are a common repair item.

I have a 2000 toyota celica gts and it wont start or turn over the starter will make like a whinning sound but its not trying to crank the engine maybe its the starter but just in case its not anybody have...

Likely either the starter or solenoid. Solenoid is a combination of relay and actuator, pushing the starter's gear into engagement with your flywheel.

starter is brand new? if not, problem might be in bendix drive of starter.
if brand new, are you sure you installed the correct starter? if not, starter might not be touching flywheel

Engine won't turn over on 1992 ford ranger

Check starter for 12 volts while trying to start, if 12 volts is present replace the starter, if not check the starter relay, starter fuse, and ignition control module.

In the meantime, turn the key to the on position and grab a screwdriver with a rubber handle. Open the hood and find your starter solenoid (located on the starter). Touch the 2 terminals on the starter solenoid together using the screwdriver. Be cautious to prevent damage to your starter or to yourself.

If starter still doesn't turn over, check and replace your battery.

Will not crank when I turn the switch, the starter turns over but not cranking

If the starter spins but does not turn the engine over than you need to replace the starter drive in the starter it's self.If this is not something that you can do then the starter it's self may be an option for you,the starter drive is in the starter and they are tricky to replace yourself.

When i turn the key to turn on only the lights and power work car

check the starter solenoid or the starter! You can run a jumper cable from the hot only on the battery to the starter and touch the hot bolt on the starter soleniod and if it dont turn over then the starter or soleniod is out. Put a bold into the end of the jumper cable so you can touch the starter easier!

Starter won't turn over engine

I know it sounds dumb, but by turning over, you mean that the engine turns but does not start? Or, that the starter turns but the engine does not turn (spin with the starter engaged and running). If engine turns with starter, check spark & fuel. If starter turns and engine does not, check the teeth on the flywheel. if any are missing or worn off, it will give that problem. If starter engages but engine seems to be "locked up", remove spark plugs and attempt to turn it by hand. Any coolant on plugs indicates a blown head gasket or cracked cylinder head. If engine does not turn by hand with plugs out, likely you have a bearing or other "lower end" problem.

Engine won.t turn

hi can you turn engine over by hand [engine s not sezied ] and how did you test the battery and how did you test starter because if the engines not seized and you put a jump lead from your positive terminal off a good battery to a starters main terminal and it wont, turn over the starters faulty or there is no engine earth so connect the other jump lead from the negative battery teminal to the engine block and try again it will turn over if the starters good if the starter turns over with the jump leads check the small terminal on the starters wire is live when someone turns the ignition key if it is and the starter does not turn over then the soleniod on the starter is faulty if no live at small terminal then the ignition switch or starter relay are faulty best of luck yates2104546
