Where are the timing marks on a 2.4l 1990 mitsubishi dodge ram 50 import? changing waterpump and belts.

The cam(s) have an indentation between two teeth that correspond to mrks(s) on the metal backplate on the culinder head. The crank gear will have a dot on it that lines up with a small peg, I believe. Rotate the crank to TDC mark on balancer and check cam marks. If not seen, rotate crnake 360 degrees and see cam marks line up. Wehn removing the belt, the cam(s_) will move slightly WRT the crank s they will be under some force to rotate so the valcves are clsoed. Know that when installing the new belt. Also, repalce tghe hydraulic tensioner and ilder pulleys to be safe. Good luck removing the harmonic balancer! Nasty job, that.

Got a 2004 dodge dakota sport,3.7 engine 2wd

Well theres no easy way but the tick marks HAVE to be set to top dead center with cylinder 1. Guess wondering since the oil pump sits in the oil pan why you tore the timing chain off? Assume you were over hauling the chain since it had high miles. All I can say if it was at top dead b4 you started cant think anything you could done for it not to go back to top center. Just keep trying walk away from it when you get really ticked off. Had a GM done that on me took 3 days going at it back and forth but i finally got it to line up to #1

How to find the timing mark on a 2006 dodge stratus 2.4 L

It would be best if you purchased a Haynes repair manual for your car. All the information will be in the manual.
You don't want a piston making contact with a valve

How do i tighten the timing belt on my 1989 pontiac

I assume you are replacing the belt and also the waterpump, the waterpump is what tightens the timing belt, it spins in the housing in an oval shaped housing and tightens or loosens the belt, you need to loosen the waterpump bolts and rotate the pump to tighten the timing belt, make sure theres a small amount of slack in the belt after you tighten it, you dont what the belt too tight, you should be able to grab belt and move in and out an inch. heres a diagram to make sure all timing marks are lined up. note if the timing belt is being replaced you really should install a new waterpump and check the timing pulleys. good day.

Got the car in pieces and was told the timing belt was replaced and all that was needed was to have all the accesories reinstalled. Reinstalled the pieces that were with the car and got a no start...

You mentioned having No. 1 cylinder on TDC; you may just have the distributor off at 180 deg. Simple error to make, No. 1 cylinder may be on top of exhaust stroke verses compression stroke. I'd check this first. Also look at your compression, if you have fuel and spark all you need is compression (with proper timing) to make her go.

I hope this may have assisted you,

with the nimber one cylinder @ tdc on compression stroke and all timing marks lined up dist. installed with rotor button pointing towards #1 you should be okay this is not an interference engine meaning if timing is not lined up properly the pistons will not contact valves causing damage

Removal of waterpump

Drain cooling system. Remove radiator upper cross-member. Remove radiator fan. Remove accessory drive belts.
NOTE: The water pump is driven by the primary timing chain.
Remove the timing chain and all chain guides then remove water pump and gasket. Reverse to install. Since this job requires about 4 special tools and the removal of the timing chain and a high level of technical skill I would not attempt it, if you get the timing chain on wrong you could cause severe damage to the engine.
