It's a sensor that measures the rotational position of the cam, and is mounted on the end of the camshaft. If you have an overhead cam (OHC) engine, it'll be at one end of the cylinder head and plugged directly onto the camshaft. You may have to remove some external covers to see it.

Camshaft position sensor how do I change this not the crankshaft shaft position sensor cam 98 Tahoe 4x4 5.7

I have a 96 mazda van and although I was getting camshaft position errors, it does not even have a camshaft sensor. It generates the signal from the distributor location.
BUT I do not know if the same is true for your Tahoe. Find a repair manual in a library and look it up if you don't get a helping answer here soon.

Long crank time, gives the same code 3 times

p0340 is a camshaft sensor circuit malfunction, and that will effectively cause long crank times before starting and also can cause rough idles, sputtering, etc.. Could be the sensor itself being faulty, could be the ring gear giving the sensor it's position that is dirty/damaged/bent, could be the connectors/prongs being loose or dirty, could be frayed or corroded wiring, or could be a faulty PCM, although it's alot rarer for a PCM to go bad. So start by checking the wires and connectors and the sensor gear, as this will be the only thing not costing money to do. If all else seems good, change the camshaft sensor if you can find one at a decent price.

I have a problem with my 96 caravan P0340 Code can you help me? Van will run and sometimes shut down and won't start for several hours.

P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it. Take it somewhere to get it checked out to see which of the above it is.

I cant find a detailed picture of where the location is to check these items.

The crankshaft position sensor is located on the transmission bell housing on the right side (if you're facing the engine from the transmission side). The camshaft position sensor is towards the top center of the timing cover on the front of the motor. They both have 3 wire connectors that are virtually identical.
