Hello
What follows is the full procedure for the timing belt replacement, make sure that the timing belt tensioner is replaced and NEVER reuse a timing belt. Please read through the entire document before you proceed and decide if you really want to tackle this rather involved difficult job. I also suggest you take a one year subscription to a site that has all the factory service manuals for download, it is called www.alldatadiy.com Remember this engine is not free wheeling, this means if you get the belt installation wrong you will SEVERLY damage the engine.

REMOVAL - TIMING BELT
TIMING VERIFICATION
Remove the outer timing covers. Rotate the crankshaft until the pointer on the crankshaft sprocket aligns the TDC mark on the oil pump. Check to determine if the camshaft sprocket timing marks are aligned with the marks on the inner timing cover. It may take an additional full revolution of the crankshaft before the camshaft sprocket marks are aligned (TIMING GEAR MARKS).

CAUTION: The 3.5L is NOT a freewheeling engine. Therefore, loosen the valve train rocker assemblies before servicing the timing drive.

Perform fuel pressure release procedure. (Refer to 14 - FUEL SYSTEM/FUEL DELIVERY - STANDARD PROCEDURE).
Disconnect negative battery cable.
Remove both cylinder head covers and loosen the rocker arm assemblies.
Remove the front timing belt cover (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT / CHAIN COVER(S) - REMOVAL).
Mark belt running direction, if timing belt is to be reused.
CAUTION: When aligning timing marks, always rotate engine by turning the crankshaft. Failure to do so will result in valve and/or piston damage.

Rotate engine clockwise until crankshaft mark aligns with the TDC mark on oil pump housing and the camshaft sprocket timing marks are aligned with the marks on the rear cover (TIMING GEAR MARKS)
Remove the timing belt tensioner (TIMING GEAR MARKS) and remove timing belt.
Inspect the tensioner for fluid leakage.
Inspect the pivot and bolt for free movement, bearing grease leakage, and smooth rotation. If not rotating freely, replace the arm and pulley assembly.
When tensioner is removed from the engine it is necessary to compress the plunger into the tensioner body.
CAUTION: Index the tensioner in the vise the same way it is installed on the engine. This ensures proper pin orientation when tensioner is installed on the engine.

Place the tensioner into a vise and SLOWLY compress the plunger (Compressing Timing Belt Tensioner). Total bleed down of tensioner should take about 5 minutes.
When plunger is compressed into the tensioner body install a pin through the body and plunger to retain plunger in place until tensioner is installed

REMOVAL
Perform fuel pressure release procedure. (Refer to 14 - FUEL SYSTEM/FUEL DELIVERY - STANDARD PROCEDURE).
Disconnect negative battery cable.
Raise vehicle on hoist.
Remove accessory drive belt (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - REMOVAL).
Remove accessory drive belt tensioner.
Remove bolts for power steering pump. Reposition power steering pump aside.
Remove crankshaft damper (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/ENGINE BLOCK/VIBRATION DAMPER - REMOVAL).
Remove the lower front timing belt cover fasteners (LOWER TIMING BELT FRONT COVER).
Lower the vehicle.
Support the engine with a floor jack.
Remove the air cleaner housing (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/AIR INTAKE SYSTEM/AIR CLEANER HOUSING - REMOVAL).
Remove the front engine mount (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/ENGINE MOUNTING/FRONT MOUNT - REMOVAL).
Disconnect the fuel supply line at the fuel rail (UPPER TIMING BELT FRONT COVER).
Remove the upper timing belt cover bolts and remove front timing belt cover (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/AIR INTAKE SYSTEM/AIR CLEANER HOUSING - REMOVAL).

One last note, the belt should last for 105,000 miles before the replacement is due.

I have the same engine in my 2005 Magnum wagon, good to know the engine is so reliable, this is the very 1st New Dodge I've ever purchased, so with only 30,000 miles at 6 years on the ticker it should last a very long time.

How to change water pump

When replacing the water pump, the drive belts may need to be removed. The belts should be replaced if they show signs of wear. The entire cooling system and all coolant hoses should be inspected when replacing the water pump.

The water pump went out in my chrysler concorde lxi 2004. what all has to be replaced to fix my car. its quite expensive so far and just seeing if they are doing this correctly! alot of different things...

Usually when changing the water pump most shops change the timing belt and also do the timing belt adjustments, the point of it is to change it and do the service because to access the water pump you need to take all of this off and you might as well replace the cheap belt and adjust all the timing while your at it. Otherwise if 10k miles down the road it needed the timing belt job, it would be the same amount in labor all over again.

2004 chrysler 300m 3.5L waterpump location and does it run off the timing belt/chain

Yes the water pump does run of the timing belt system.
Directly from the service manual:

The 3.5L water pump has a die cast aluminum
housing and a plastic swept vane impeller. It bolts
directly to the right rear timing belt cover using an
O-ring for sealing. The water pump is
driven by the engine timing belt.

REMOVAL
The water pump on all models can be replaced
without discharging the air conditioning system.
WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE PRESSURE CAP
WITH THE SYSTEM HOT AND UNDER PRESSURE
BECAUSE SERIOUS BURNS FROM COOLANT CAN
OCCUR.

NOTE: It is normal for the water pump to weep a
small amount of coolant from the weep hole (black
stain on water pump body). Do not replace the
water pump if this condition exists. Replace the
water pump if a heavy deposit or a steady flow of
engine coolant is evident on water pump body from
the weep hole (shaft seal failure). Be sure to perform
a thorough analysis before replacing water
pump.

(1) Drain cooling system (Refer to 7 - COOLING -
STANDARD PROCEDURE).

(2) Remove accessory drive belts (Refer to 7 -
COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS -
REMOVAL).

NOTE: The water pump is driven by the timing belt.

(3) Remove engine timing belt (Refer to 9 -
ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT AND
SPROCKETS - REMOVAL).

(4) Remove water pump mounting bolts (Fig. 31).
Note position of longer bolt for proper re-installation.

(5) Remove water pump body from engine

Replace water pump on 2004 Dodge Stratus 2.4L DOHC

First, I'd recommend you buy a manual, because the water pump is internally mounted, driven by the timing belt. You will also need a puller to remove the crankshaft pulley. You can usually rent/borrow this from the same place you bought the manual. The manual will also show you how to properly install the timing belt and compress the tensioner.
You will need to drain the cooling system, raise the car (safely), remove the right tire, right inner fender, right engine mount (aka front mount), accessory drive belts, timing belt cover, timing belt and tensioner (which needs to be recompressed correctly), and now you are at the water pump. Since the timing belt has to be removed, you should also replace it.

Would like to know if water pump needs to be changed when doing timing belt on 2004 hyundai santa fe 2.0 liter and how long of a job is it

Hi....
On your 2004 Santa Fe.
The water pump is not driven by the Timing belt.
Is not stricttly nessesary to replace togheter. they are individual.
But I recomend replace the timing belt when you replace the water pump. Because for get axces to the water pump,
you need to remove all the Timing covers.
Is just a few more minutes to remove the Timing belt.
Inspect the Engine seals, cam and crank Replace if need.
My PC show me a 2.4L 4cyl. for 2004 santa fe.

Ok.. The labor for that job Removing the Timing belt and water Pump ...IS:
2.8 hours. just the water pump 2.4 hours.

OK.. I hope this help on your question...
Thank you for use fixya..
