Question about 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country

Power i ain't got no power to the fuel injectors or spark on the plugs i was driving home it was fine then next morning it wouldn't start i replaced fuel pump and stuff all the plugs and wires dis cap and rotor button got power to every thing else but that

You dont say if no power whilst cranking or static ?sounds like a poss fuel pump relay fault if you say u have no power to injectors, what did you check power with ? a test lamp or multi meter ?the ecu switches the earth off & 0n to achieve switching, but if now power would suggest fuel pump relay fault, but a tachomatic relay (receives signal from coil to kick in relay) if basic fuel pump relay it may have a crash sensor that has tripped and needs resetting. ford had them in the boot , rovers had them up dash by radio , jags had them centre console fiats pass footwell.
silly qustion, is the vehicle safe guarded by a chipped key system? if so has the key been damaged /fell apart ? you may have lost electronic chip! this on most cars will allow cranking with no power to pump or ignition system. good luck

check your PGMFI (Fuel Injection Main Relay) if it's good then check the Fuel Pump for power with a probe tester. what do fuses 30 & 31 operate? maybe there is a short and maybe it has to do with those 2 fuse lines working against each other or maybe they are bumping heads with the injectors electrical wiring. my first advice is to check the fuel injection main relay and the fuel pump first.

1986. Why won't it start?


The fact that you could run it home is an indication that the fuel system and spark are working. That assumption leads into a single component failure. It is either a fuel injector that has decided to stick open. Or a fuel injector circuit that has failed and is supplying continues power to one injector, or a pressure regulator whose internal diaphragm has failed and fuel is leaking past the diaphragm and up the vacuum hose into the air inlet manifold.

  1. Find the pressure regulator and trace the vacuum hose to the manifold and confirm that no gas is leaking through the hose. If so replace the pressure regulator.
  2. I would remove the spark plugs and find the spark-plug that has the most carbon built up on the tip. Have the fuel injector checked. Replace the corresponding fuel injector and clean or replace the suspect cylinder spark-plug. If the injector is stuck open removing the electrical connection will not close the injector.
  3. A third possibility is a blocked return hose from the pressure regulator back to the tank. I think this is the least likely

Chances are its a spark plug or coil. You should have a trouble code in the computer for the cylinder in question. The flashing light means the problem was serious at the time.

first need to make sure you have enough fuel pressure. Hook up a tester and check against the specs. if its too low, then your probably looking at a fuel pump. By replacing the filter, you allowed more fuel to flow. Also, make sure you are getting spark and injector pulse.

As with any no-start situation, you need to know if you have spark to the plugs, fuel to the injectors, and normal compression to proceed.

have diagnostic codes checked to see if you have a cam or crank sensor fault. make sure fuel pressure is at the required pressure, just testing to see if you have fuel at the valve is not enough. replace all spark plug wires. if you replaced two then all are just as old and even when they "look good" does not qualify as "they are good". Replace coil pack. start up drive away happy

If the engine will not fire on starting fluid the problem lies elsewhere in ignition. Spark plugs etc. computer has a nofault safety start relay. meaning no spark , no fuel

And do you have spark at the plug wires when it won't start? You need to check to see if you have spark at the plug wires. You can buy a simple tester for under $10.00 at the parts store and it will show you if you are getting spark.

My 1997 Dodge Avenger's engine won't start


Try cam and/or crank sensor. If crank to cam timing isn't detected properly it'll crank all day but won't start. I had similar problem on my 2.5L V6 Avenger....drove home fine, no engine light, next morning it cranked, but wouldn't start. The crank sensor was faulty.
