Could be a crankshaft position sensor (not starting well is one of the symptoms) and or the Idle air control (IAC) (found under the throttle body intake and requires R&I of throttle body). You can test the Idle control with a simple test found in the Haynes repair manual. On a side note, I just replaced my fuel pump today and with a 1999 corolla, make sure to replace the half circle black fuel filter the pump and gas pressure regulator mounts into as well. Auto-Parts places all think the filter is in the pump itself on that year, but it is a special order through a dealership that should be done at same time as pump.

Try using some engine cleaner.. "Sea Foam" works best in my opinion. just find the brake booster hose unplug it... turn the car on and let the hose **** about half a can into the motor.... then plug the hose back up and pour the rest into your gas tank.... let the car run for ten minutes... and see if this helps your problem. If it doesn't atleast you cleaned your motor out some and can feel better about that, and you can try to find another source of your problem.. maybe the rotor inside the distributor cap is not making a good connection for some reason in the cold try getting that replaced along with a set of spark plugs and wires if that hasn't been done already.. its a fairly easy fix and inexpensive as well.

There could be several things that could cause this issue to happen. It sounds like you may have a faulty MAF (mass air flow) sensor, or a throttle position sensor, but it could also be a faulty crankshaft sensor, or even a camshaft sensor. I would recommend that you have a diagnostic ran, that will save you time, and money, and will take the guess work out of the repair.

How do I know its my fuel pump that needs changing? I have a 2004 Pontiac grand am and it turns over fine, but some days especially when its really hot outside and I'm going on long trips the car acts as...

the only way to tell is to have the fuel pressure tested with a gauge when its running okay then have it tested when its acting up. this will show any type of pressure and volume problem that could indicate a pump problem. when and how long has it been since you changed the fuel filter. pumps will usually act up when they get hot or when you have just filled up on gas. they will also act up when you have driven a bit and shut the engine off to go lets say into a store and come out and try to start it. this is why a fuel pressure test is important.

Second roll over to start engine when it is cold

If a repair shop did the cleaning & tested
some how to tell you that, then the injectors
have to come out & be ultra sonic cleaned
Fairly new vehicle for those issues
Try a different shop
The only reason to replace the fuel pump was
if it failed completely
Car is too new to need spark plug wires, was the ignition
system even tested & was fuel pressure tested?
Have to look at fuel trim on a scan tool also.

We have a 99 dodge Durango bringing up codes po123 and po443 and it runs pretty good but after driving for a bit it just dies then start up again and dies again we have changed pcv valve, fuel pump &...

Code 123 is for a problem with the throttle position sensor circuit. So if you have replaced the sensor, either it is not calibrated or there is something going on with the wiring back to the computer.
Code 443 is for the EVAP purge control circuit. Same thing if you have replaced the purge solenoid.
You could also have a problem with the engine computer. You'll need a shop manual to get the testing procedures for each code.

You have a Fuel Delivery Pump & a second Fuel Transfer Pump
in the fuel tank
The tank is large & under the car ,under the rear seat
Have to remove the exhaust system & drive shaft

The Fuel Pump Relay --is in the Battery Junction Box (BJB) as well
as the Fuel Pump Motor Diode

There also is a (REM) Rear Electronic Module
I recall that has a variable speed pump regulator
or whatever

There are even more players there as well

Very complicated system ,that you have no way to even
start on yourself
Doubtful even a repair shop could do much

I have a 2004 LS and all the Factory Manuals & Wiring
Diagrams. Without them your done

1998 jeep wrangler fuel filter issue?

Your fuel filter is part of the regulator located on top of the fuel pump. Though it is outside the tank, on many you need to drop the tank to get at it. Likely the shop wants to replace the entire thing because they do not want to take the tank down twice if changing the filter/regulator does not fix the problem. If you were my customer, I'd give you that option but make it clear that if the tank needed to be removed a second time you would need to pay for that. If the shop uses good quality parts and guarantee their work, there is nothing wrong with a complete exchange but I'd want to save the old pump as a possible "spare part" needing only a regulator to be returned to service. in an emergency situation.
