Question about Ford Thunderbird

1995 Ford Thunderbird will not start for an hour after being turned off. Battery and fuel supply seems to be okay.

check battery volts should be 12.6 volts.if not battery is dead.if battery okay starter relay is bad on fenderwell next to battery or starter it self faulty.if all is good faulty neutral switch to transmission will cause no starter operation.turn off radio before disconnecting negative battery cable.

Have you checked the EGR valve? The Backpressure Valve? The IAC (Idle Air Control Valve?) Those are the other parts in the motor besides the fuel pump that could be bad.

1995 Ford Thunderbird, 4.6L. Fuel is pouring into the engine. All spark plugs show black soot. Checked Fuel Pressure and the regulator seems to be working. Exhaust smells like raw gasoline and raw fuel...

Hi, the primary sensor inputs used by the computer to establish the appropriate injector pulse width are the MAF snesor and the TPS. I recommend you test these sensors according to procedure pasted below and repair as indicated by test results. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

MAF Sensor Tests, 1995-96 4.6L Engines

  1. With engine running, use DVOM to verify there is at least 10.5 volts between terminals A and B of the MAF sensor connector. This indicates the power input to the sensor is okay.
  2. With engine running, use DVOM to measure voltage between MAF sensor connector terminals C and D. If the reading is about 0.34-1.96 volts at idle, the sensor is okay.

TPS TESTING (Note, this procedure calls for a breakout box, but the same test can be accomplished by probing the back of the TPS connector at the brown/white and grey/white wires)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the PCM and connect a breakout box to the PCM and harness.
  3. Probe terminals 89 and 90 with an ohmmeter.
  4. Slowly rotate the throttle shaft and monitor the ohmmeter for a continuous change in resistance. Any sudden changes in resistance indicates an open or substrate sensor.
  5. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  6. Turn the ignition switch ON and using a voltmeter, measure the voltage between terminals 89 and 90 of the breakout box. The specification is 0.8 volts on the 2.3L, 3.8L and 5.0L engines or 0.9 volts on the 4.6L engine.
  7. If the voltage is outside the standard value or if it does not change smoothly, inspect the circuit wiring and/or replace the throttle position sensor.

Changed motor in 1995 T-Bird. Everything working, but can't get juice to coil pac or fuel pump. Have check fuses,etc. Any other suggestions appreciated!

Check the ground wires as I had the same problems whenever I painted my car. However it seems a little different. When you say everything is working, what do you mean? The car is turning over? Do the headlights come on? Can you hear the fuel pump engaging whenever you turn the key to the on position (not the start position)? If the answer is no to these questions, then it is the negative ground wire right in front of the battery location. I spent a month trying to figure this stupid thing out! Be sure the ground is tight and if it doesn't work, get some sandpaper and go to bare metal beneath the ground wire connection. Good luck!!!

the best way is to remove the fuse or the relay and put it back for it to run again my tbird got stolen and i wired a switch under the dash in place of the ecu fuse

95 Ford T-Bird Doesn't Always Start

I had the same problem and it left me stranded and my wife several times. The only part that gives the signal to the tach also gives the signal to your ignition. Change out the crank position sensor, mounted on the lower right front of the engine by the A/C compressor. You will need to loosen up the compressor and move it out of the way, but in all roughly about a 2 hour job depending how much the compressor fights ya.

My 95 ford thunderbird started right up in the morning, i drove it about 10 miles and shut it off about an hour later i went to start it and it made a loud click and it wouldnt start, nothing works like...

check battery cable for tightness and no corrosion.if all is well charge the battery or jump start it. while engine running check to see if the alternator is charging should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts while engine idling.turn off engine battery voltage should be 12.5. if drops to 11.0 to 10.0 volts.battery is weak.if car running the voltage should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts alternator is charging. if the voltage is 11.8 to 11.0 volts. alternator is not charging.
