How to remove the left axle from the gear housing of a 2006, 2500 truck, we have tried a large slide hammer and was un able to reove it

There might be clips retaining the axles inside the 3rd member.

Halfshaft will not come out of passerger side differential


Try Autozone's loan-a-tool deal. The typical half-shaft remover is a fork that fits between the inner CV's housing and the transaxle case. The fork is attached to a slide hammer, only takes a blow or two to pull the half-shaft free.
Another way is to get a large screwdriver or pry bar or punch, use it against the inner CV's housing, tap it outward with a hammer. If you can get a good whack on it, it usually frees the axle. There is a circlip (ring) in a groove on the inner end of the shaft. This circlip fits in a corresponding groove in the transaxle gears. Once the ring clears the groove, the axle will slip right out.

or the whole total axle, (some call it an axle and is not, its and axle assembly and housing with gear sets)

no symptoms stated, and matters big time to any helping mech.
let me guess, a seal leaks. left side. (tossed coin)

with full video..... we have 3 videos on file, some sux.
hint1: do only 1 side at time, for sure brake bits.
hint2, drain axle.
have a slide hammer ready.
I just did one, so is fresh in mind, and not first.
hint3, take photos of brakes, bits as they dismount (a big win)

the FSM book (GM only) has errors.(factory serv.man)
skips the RTV step,, jokers. at GM cant even copy a good
suzuki FSM. and not skip steps. sad.
same on all 89-2004
the early 2 years have bolt on drums 4 bolts. is difference.

to replace bearings on axles that is another story and longer video
but your machine shop has the press (huge) to do this right
let him, DO THAT, and WIN.
using hammers is fail... and repeat.
ignore videos with man in gutter, with large hammer.

Half shaft removal


The trick is to pop the circlip on the end of the axle shaft out of its groove in the transmission gears. Shops use a fork on the inner CV joint housing, attached to a slide hammer.
What usually works is to use a pry bar or large screwdriver between the CV housing and the transmission case, and pop the axle out. Be careful of damaging the axle seal on the transmission.

How to remove the left cv axel from the the housing case of a 2005 ford escape split ring is keeping it from being removed


Enough force applied will pop it out. But you can't grab hold and yank-you might pull apart the cv joint. Shops can use a slide hammer with an attached fork that slips around the cv joint housing. Another method is using a large screwdriver or pry bar between the axle housing and the cv joint housing. Slip it between them and place tip of bar against the cv housing. Now give it a good stiff push with your hand to pop out the joint and axle. Be careful of the aluminum axle case and the axle seal-don't break or damage anything. Just remember: enough force applied will pop out the circlip from its groove inside the axle case.

How to remove rear axcel shaft to replace seal


Please consider bearing replacement as typically some looseness there causes play and seal leakage...

You may have one of two designs.

Normal is a flange plate with 4 screws., release this plate and you can see the bearing (barely) and the axle pulls out, sometimes with a slide hammer, because of rust and debris buildup..

The 2nd type is a c-lock. to release this type, you open up the rear inspection plate, at the center. Catch the fluid. and replace the gasket, usually. Inside the CARRIER are 4 spyder gears. two of these gears are on a common idler shaft. You take out a bolt that retains this idler shaft, and remove it. Then you can PUSH the axle inwards, and reveal the c-clip. it is the idler shaft that keeps the axles outward and the c-clips in their place.
This design often requires axle replacement as it is one of the bearing surfaces that fails...inspece carefully for bearing damage.

How to replace right rear wheel seal


Remove wheel.
Remove the 4 nuts,through the axle flange hole,that retain the axle bearing and shaft into the housing.You need to use a socket and extension,for this. It may be stuck in the axle bore,but a chain may be used or a slide hammer to knock it loose.Just pull it out and the seal is in the axle housing bore.
Use a large bar to remove the seal it is a press fit so it wont come out with out destroying it! I have used the axle shaft to do this.Pack the new seal with grease, to keep the seals expansion spring within the seal lips. You will need a driver to install the seal,and a hammer ! Good luck! Check the gear lube level and replenish after the seal,and axle is installed.

How do I remove the front left Cv Axle?


To remove the driver side cv axle:
place a large flathead screwdriver between the transaxle housing and the axle. Then place a chisel behind the screwdriver. The order will be: transaxle housing, chisel, flat screwdriver, axle.
Then give the chisel a hit or two with a hammer and it should pop out with ease.

I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4 x 4, I need to remove the Left Axle from the Axle Housing to replace seals and U-joint. How do I remove the Axle from the Axle Housing?


Remove wheel....remove brakes....three bolts behind the hub (9/16" 12pt socket)....1 11/16" nut in center of hub needs to be removed. You will need a slide hammer type puller to hook onto the hub for removal. (you should replace the hub...prone to go bad)....axle will now slide out through opening where the hub was.

Rear axle berrings


Tools needed- typical socket and ratchet set, Axle slide hammer, Wiz Wheel type rotary cut off tool, chisel, ball pein hammer, hydraulic press, bech vice
First you must remove the rear wheels, then you must remove the brake capiler and mounting bracket, remove the brake rotor. unbolt 4 nuts on back side of brake dust shield that hold the seal and bearing securly in place. then you must attatch the slide hammer to the axle shaft by using the vehicles lug studs and lug nuts. use the slide hammer to knock the axle shaft out of the housing. it generally takes about 10-15 hard slams before it comes loose. once axle shaft is free to come out remove the slide hammer and pull the shaft from the axle tube. place the axle shaft into a vise and use the cut off wheel to cut off the bearing spacer. cut parralell to shaft until you hear a snap sound once it snaps use the hammer to slide the spacer off the end of the shaft. next you need to cut the bearing off the shaft using a the same technique being careful not the cut the shaft or the seal retainer plate. once the bearing is off then you can slide off the old axle seal. now slide on a new axle seal, axle bearing, and bearing spacer. take assembly to a hydraulic press and press the spacer and bearing onto the shaft until it seats squarely and make sure its all the way down onto the axle shaft. lubricate bearing with gear oil. and install shaft back into axle tube making sure that the recess in the seal retainer plate lines up with the abs sensor wire. tighten all nuts evenly top off gear oil
