Blown head gasket sucking in air at leak point will make incorrect air fuel ratio and affect idle...will run as long as you keep foot on brake and revs up at light right...if so probably your prob but also check fuel filter and a plugged exhaust will make it stall also so may have catalitic converter cut out an replaced with replacement catylitic is like$ for carbon breakdown but no law to leave it on.but check where u live and get a second opinion cuz some will say u need it just for the work always shop around.

I would check the vacuum hoses to make sure 1 of them is not leaking , or has a hole in it. i would also check the fuel filter if it hasn't already been replaced.

Replaced front calipers on my 99 Escourt at 65000 miles;2 years and 9000 miles later they must be replaced again! My 68 yr old light driving wife wants to know why?

You need to disassemble brakes, twice a year,to clean off rust and lube required places,so they work correctly.
If this is not done, and No one does what Iam suggesting. Then the brake pads drag, because they can not release, and you wear out your pads in 9000 miles, instead of 45,000miles,I get on mine.
What you have,is what I call & I don't mean to be hurtful, is neglect and break down maintainance.

that shouldnt happen!!! theres a problem there! have the front caliper hoses replaced! if the hoses failed they will cause the caliper to lock up! thus causeing caliper damage! if u replace them again !change the hoses to !youll never have a problem again

1997 ford taurus have to give it gas to start it

From your description of the problem The first thing that comes to light is the idle air control valve.
This devise is mounted near the throttle body and controls the airflow past the throttle plate when the throttle is closed.
There isn't a position sensor on itso if it becomes sticky it won't turn on your check engine light.
It's a fairly common problem. I have tried in the past to free them up but it never seems to work out well.
Hope this helps you along to a repair.

It idles in park, but when put in drive it dies. In gear driving let off of throtle it dies. Now it won't start.

With stopping the engine when put into drive , sounds like a torque converter problem , also when driving and letting off the throttle.
Is the engine difficult to turn over, Slow ? This also would indicate a T.C. fault.
It should go to a transmission shop for checking
