Question about 2001 Isuzu Rodeo

Open Question

I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo LS 4wd automatic, it has 88,000 miles. Check trans light and set cruise control light come on, trans seems to lug when accelerating from a slow down or stop. Lights don't stay on for about a second. No codes. Also stalls, my biggest problem, yikes, it has no problem restarting. Took it to a trans shop, they don't know, also sent to a Honda dealer, no help. Had EGR valve problems before, but these symptoms are different. New EGR in 2009. And Check Engine is flashing now too!!

SOURCE: 1999 isuzu rodeo 4wd not woking

I had this happen to a 1999 4x4 LS and my sisters boyfriend mentioned to periodically turn 4x4 on/off at least once a month.
What I did was go down a stretch of road slowly and attempt to turn it on/off till it became unstuck.
Drove around 10 miles on a road that was hardly used...to get the stupid light to quit flashing I had to put it in park and try to creep forward ---while using off settiing or put in park then reverse...while using the off -setting on 4x4. My patience paid off. They get sticky...you must be cautious... because there is a way to cause vibration and then it won't start...some deadman feature that I experienced once and the LWD must have slipped in a little and I had to look at everything.
Mine is an Automatic with the shift on the floor...that can get sticky too.

Good luck and hope this helps...mine had lots of growing pains but I get 23 mpg and it runs/idles better and the only gremlin left is some short in the dash which leaves the lights D/3 (one or both on)for the shift indicator on:)

SOURCE: isuzu rodeo sport 4wd, stuck in 4wd

Don't know if this will help with your exact problem, but I can share with you how I have "fixed" this.

If the 4WD indicator is flashing, then it means the 4WD select switch is working but the 4wd "clutch" hasn't released. Backing the vehicle up slowly, or sometimes just switching into reverse with the 4WD switch in the 2WD position is usually enough to release the 4WD and the 4WD indicator should go off. It after all this, the indicator still does not go off, it could be some issue with the electric 4WD clutch not releasing.
You should be able to tell if the 4WD drive is still engaged by driving slowly in a circle. On drive pavement, the front wheels will "hop" around. Don't do this too fast or too often on drive pavement, since the part time 4WD was not meant for this. The front wheels have to be able to slip in relation to each other, when in 4WD.

Hope this helps and wish you well in your troubleshooting.

SOURCE: Engine will not idle, stalls at stop lights etc - EGR code

To me if the engine will not idel and stall once you have stopped, that points to an IAC (Idle Air Control sensor) which is located on your throttle body.  The part is very easy to get to and changes out pretty quickly.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa!

SOURCE: Cruise control & check trammission light comes on my 2001 Rodeo

I had that problem too and the issue was a loose wire connecting the engine control modude to the crankshaft sensor switch. The engine control module does not sense where the crankshaft position is when the wire moves, and that causes things to go snaky, such as the transmission and cruise lights coming on. This issue took a good mechanic in Syracuse one and a half weeks to find. Total cost was $425.00,$395.00 for labour, and $.99 for the new wire. Good luck!

How reset check 4wd light for isuzu rodeo 2003 S

I found the easiest less expensive solution that you should always check first. On my 2003 Rodeo I had the check trans and check 4wd light an ABS light on. Underneath the center console/armrest there is a black box sensor. Right below cup holders. That piece is easily drenched in coffee, water, whatever and causes shorts/ Change that out and a fix to all my problems.

2001 rodeo 3.2 trans check light and cruise control light comes on when hitting bumps

Sounds like a loose wire, switch or connector somewhere or a bare wires touching. Have someone sit in the vehicle to watch for the light while you go through all the accessible wires etc to try duplicate the fault. Once duplicated the necessary remedy can be implemented

2001 Isuzu Rodeo 4WD. CHeck Engine light on and

After market spark plugs could be the problem.
Reinstall the old plugs and see if that fixes it.
This vehicle has an ion sensing ignition system and is real sensitive to the proper spark plugs. I would get the proper plugs from the dealer if the old ones work.
The codes P1311 and P1312 are ion sensing codes.

When accelerating and hitting a bump or pothole, the "check transmission" light & "cruise set" light come on

I would check the connector at the trans or trans module and make sure you dont have any broken motor mounts.
