I would 1st check the thermostat, it could be defective and not opening up properly. also check the coolant temperature switch.

Might just be a stuck thermostat. Replace it and see if it solves the problem. If it doesn't, you may need the radiator serviced and rodded out or install a new core.

My 2001 mercury sable runs hot (temperature gauge goes high then drops back at half also


Check your coolant level visually by removing the radiator cap (only when it is cold). Also make sure the coolant temperature sensor for the cooling fan is functioning properly. These are set to operate the fan when the engine coolant reaches a predetermined temperature. These go bad in time and need replacing. Sounds as though yours may be working intermittently.

My sunfire overheats and leaks out overflow everytime i drivee it.i changed water pump,thermostat the fan is working fine and had a water pressure test done last mth

Heater donot get hot whil running


It could be a plugged heater core or heater control problem. I assume the blower is working, but the air is cold. The first thing to check is the coolant level, make sure there is coolant in the resivoir. Next see if the temerature gauge reaches the normal operating temperature range. If the gauge reads cold most of the time, it would tell you that the thermsotat is faulty and not allowing the engine to reach full operating temperature. If your car doesn't have a temp gauge, the blue cold engine light might stay on for an extended period of time. The thermostat is supposed to not allow coolant flow in the radiator until the engine reaches operating temperature. If you drive the car for a couple of minutes, from cold start, the radiator or upper hose should be cool until the engine reaches operating temp.

I replaced the thermasat there is no coolant in oil or oil in coolant exhaust has no smell of coolant yet after 20 minutes car overheats and boils back to resivor , temp gauge shows normal and not hot....


it sounds like you may still have air trapped in the system.
remove the pressure cap and fill the system up
with the cap off and the heater on the highest temperature, start the car and slacken off the highest hoses and make sure there is water coming out of them not air before retightening. do these one at a time keeping a close eye on the water level, topping up as needed. this should sort out any trapped air in the system.

it is possible that there is a problem with the head gasket that would not give a smell of coolant in the exhaust, this can be tested quite easily and cheaply in a garage

WHEN COOLANT LEVEL QUIT DROPPING YOUR COOLANT LEVEL IS CORRECT. NO MORE AIR IN COOLANT SYSTEM OR AROUND COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR COOLANT FAN SHOULD TURN ON ONCE ENGINE GET TO CERTAIN COOLANT TEMPERATURE.SEE IF COOLANT TOO LOW NOT ENOUGH COOLANT REACH COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR. 1992 mazda mx3 heater blows warm, but not hot. Coolant is full, heater hoses are hot. What is wrong?


Hot air is dependent on the coolant temperature and the heater core. There are several things that can cause your problem. The easiest to check is the coolant level in the radiator\reservoir. There must be enough coolant to flow freely between the engine and the heater core. The next is the thermostat. If the thermostat is not closing it would prevent the the coolant from reaching a high enough temperature to allow for hot air. The thermostat is not expensive or difficult to replace. The third thing is a blockage in the heater core. Flush the coolant system properly can sometimes take care of this. If it does not the only alternative is a new heater core.

Check the following :

BMW Code PO128
This means that the engine's PCM detected that the engine has not reached the required temperature level within a specified amount of time after starting the engine. The intent of the P0128 code is to indicate a faulty thermostat. Similar codes: P0125
In determining the engine did not reach a "normal" temperature, it takes into account the length of time the vehicle has been running, the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor reading, the engine coolant

temperature (ECT) sensor reading, and the speed of the vehicle.

You will likely not notice any drivability problems other than the MIL illumination.
A code P0128 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Low engine coolant level
  • Leaking or stuck open thermostat
  • Faulty cooling fan (running too much)
  • Faulty coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
  • Faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensor
solutions
Past experience indicates that the most likely solution is to replace the thermostat. Verify coolant strength & level
  • Verify proper cooling fan operation (check if it's running more than it should). Replace if necessary.
  • Verify proper engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor operation, replace if necessary.
  • Verify proper intake air temperature (IAT) sensor operation, replace if necessary.
  • If the above items check out good, replace the thermostat

P0125 obd code


P0125 Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Closed Loop Fuel Control
This means that the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor indicates that the engine
has not reached the required temperature level to enter closed-loop operation within a specified amount of time after starting the engine.

A code P0125 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Insufficient warm up time
  • Low engine coolant level
  • Leaking or stuck open thermostat
  • Faulty coolant temperature sensor

The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If the code comes back, the problem is likely going to be the result of the above causes (faulty thermostat, faulty coolant sensor, or a low coolant level).

Heater temperature does not stay hot


1st thing to check is the coolant level. I've seen cars w/ no heat, or very little quite a few times caused by low level in cooling system--not low enough to overheat the engine, but enough that circulation of coolant to heater core is affected (no or little hot coolant circulation to heater core=no or little heat),
Is the engine temp gauge in the normal range? If it's in the low range, engine not reaching operating temp. it could be caused by a thermostat stuck in the open position (or no thermostat, sometimes people remove them when their car overheats, and this should not be done).
Here's how the system works: the heater 'box' contains a heater core (a mini radiator) w/ a fan and hoses connecting the heater core to the engine cooling system. Hot engine coolant is circulated thru the heater core. When u activate the heat switch on the dash, a flap door opens to expose the heater box to the passenger compartment. The fan switch on the dash activates the fan, which blows air thru the core, which heats the air.
So, if it's not the coolant level at the radiator, the fan is obviously working, the engine is reaching operating temperature, I would say it must be the flap door that opens, isn't opening fully, or isn't staying open. It could be the dash switch is defective (not supplying current to open flap door) or less likely the flap door is binding somehow. Hope it's as simple as correcting coolant level, if not, the dash switch control should be checked
