Some times there is a hole lined up close to the bolt in the chassis of the car that allows you to sneak the bolt out. If not, you will most likely have to unbolt the motor mount and lower engine so its on an angle so you can remove this bolt. Make sure you use a decent jack under the engine accompanyed by a peice of wood so you don't do any damage to engines oil pan when lowering or raiseing engine. Some times the mounts can be a little tuff to line up but take your time.

Alternator

Instructions
    • Disconnect the battery by turning the positive terminal bolt in a counterclockwise direction. The terminal can be set aside, as long as it does not touch the battery or vehicle frame.
    • 2Remove the radiator fan shroud, fan and radiator by turning their bolts counterclockwise and disconnecting the electrical connections. The coolant must be drained before removing the radiator by loosening the drain plug on the bottom left corner of the radiator frame. The hoses are held on with pinch-style hose clamps that can be gripped with a pair of pliers and slid back on the hose for removal. Once freed from the hoses, the radiator can be unbolted from the top mounts and slid out of the frame toward the top.
    • 3Uncouple the power steering pump hoses with a line wrench by turning the bolt in a counterclockwise direction. The hoses can be set aside. Some fluid may drain out into the drain pan.
    • 4Firmly press against the tension pulley to loosen the primary drive belt. This pulley is located on the right side of the engine as the Aurora uses a transverse-mounted motor.
    • 5Slide the primary drive belt off of the alternator pulley wheel and release the tension pulley. The belt will try to fall, as there is too much slack, but it can be propped up to retain its path through the other accessory pulleys.
    • 6Unbolt the alternator's two top bolts with a socket wrench. It may be necessary to use a universal joint socket because of the tight clearances.
    • 7Remove the alternator's third bolt from underneath the vehicle by turning it in a counterclockwise direction.
    • 8Disconnect the primary positive charging wire from the alternator's output terminal by loosening the nut in a counterclockwise direction.
    • 9Manipulate the alternator out of the engine compartment, taking care to not bump or harm any engine components in the process. The alternator can be worked out of the mount, then wiggled free toward the top of the motor.
    • 10Replace the alternator by positioning it into the mount, then securing the charging terminal by tightening the nut in a clockwise direction. Tighten the bottom mount bolt first, then the two top bolts to secure the alternator.
    • 11Replace the primary drive belt by pressing firmly on the tension pulley and sliding the belt onto the alternator's pulley wheel. It should seat into the grooves on the wheel and should become tight when the tension pulley is released.
    • 12Replace the power steering pump hoses and refill the power steering pump fluid to the proper level.
    • 13Replace the radiator, fan and fan shroud by securing the radiator into the frame and tightening its mount bolts. Connect the hoses and electrical fan connections. Refill the coolant system to the proper level.
    • 14Reconnect the battery's main positive terminal by turning the bolt in a clockwise direction.

Tips on changing out the alternator for 2004 f150 ford supercab 5.4 v8

First disconnect battery. Next unload tensioner that applys spring tension to serpentine belt. Set belt aside, just take it off on alternator pulley. Try to leave it on all other points that it rides on. No need to take off entire belt, unless you want to change it also. Unbolt alternator bolts & unplug electrical connectors. Reverse procedure to reinstall.

I am changing the alternator in a 1998 dodge neon, need diagram

No diagram...
The pivot bolt is the long bolt that holds the alternator to the frame.
If you loosen it, the alternator can "swing" with the pivot bolt as its .... well, pivot, or swing center.

The long bolt must be removed completely in order to remove the alternator.

Be sure to doisconnect the negative cable from your battery.

Hope this hleps w/o a diagram.

I need to figure out how to change the belt on a 1994 Mazda Protege alternator

GO HERE. It shows the procedure for changing out the complete alternator, but the belt procedure is in there also. You don't have to remove all the stuff mentioned in the instructions. Just loosen the alternator bolts, disconnect the electrical connector and remove and replace the belt. No big deal. Good luck.

Replace alternator

I have a 2001 Mazda Tribute. To change the alternator; the factory procedure at the dealership says to drop the sub-frame from under the front of the vehicle. Then everything is accessable. The tech at the dealership told me how they do it: (Its not easy!!) 1. Remove the right front tire 2. Remove dust pan from right front 3. Remove the brake caliper and caliper bracket 4. Remove the 2 bolts from the half shaft support bracket 5. Remove the half shaft axle assembly 6. Remove the serpentine belt 7. Remove the 3 bolts holding the alternator in place 8. Remove the 3 bolts holding the alternator mounting bracket 9. Remove the alternator mounting bracket 10. Remove the electrical connection on the alternator 11. Remove the alternator by turning the alternator until it will come out of the opening 12. Repeat process in reverse for installation. I did this twice in two weeks because of a bad alternator. The studs that are spot welded on the half shaft bracket will try to keep you from being able to remove the alternator. The left stud on the bracket popped out, when we were removing the alternator and it seemed to make it easier to get the alternator out. I just put a lock washer on the back side of the stud when I mounted the half shaft and it worked fine. Good luck
