AC clutch has to be energized for the compressor to turn and cool. Check out the thermostat as well as the low pressure cut off switch, relays for proper operation.

If you connect the 12 volts to the hot side of the clutch it should engage - if so that indicates that the issue is caused by some electrical item in line with the circuit that powers the clutch.

AC compressor not coming on

It is likely low on refrigerant. There is a low pressure switch that inhibits the operation of the compressor when there is not an adequate amount of refrigerant. If you have an R-12 system, you can retrofit it to accept the R-134A refrigerant charging equipment.

If jumpering the relay contacts does not engage the compressor, the clutch coil may be burned out or wire broke. If it is a failed clutch coil, you may need to replace the compressor because many of those parts are not being carried anymore.

Air compressor wont come on to to put in 134a

The AC compressor does not have to be running to charge the AC system, and the low pressure switch will even prevent the AC compressor from operating until there is sufficient pressure to operate the AC compressor without damaging it.

Start the engine and turn on the AC, then charge the system with the R-134a and as soon as there is enough pressure built up to trip the low pressure switch off, the AC compressor clutch should then engage and then finish charging the AC system.

AC Compressor not engaging on 2000 Chevy Impala. Fuses and AC relay okay. No power at compressor. Need wiring diagram. Also need to know if compressor requires 12v for operation. If not what should voltage...

When your R-134a runs too low it will NOT engage the compressor. You need to refill your a/c system before the clutch will engage, I also suggest finding the leak.

AC BLOWING HOT AIR. JUST ATTEMPTED TO ADD R-134a REFRIGERANT BUT THE GAGE SAYS IT'S FILLED. WHAT ELSE COULD BE THE PROBLEM AND HOW CAN I SOLVE IT?

The clutch to engage the A/C compressor needs to be energized. Open the hood and have someone hit the A/C on switch, and listen for the clutch to engage. If not, check wires and fuse. Also, pressure switch for control and A/C relay.
