Question about Ford Explorer Sport

I have a 1994 ford explorer sport the transmission in it the revers and the over drive works part time but most of the time they dont work at all 1st 2nd and drive work like they sould . could this be a easy fix or will i have to have a rebiled done? or should i just look in to getting anether transmission?

I would check fluid condition and level. Wouldn't hurt to try and get it flushed and a no slip type additive added aswell . Lucas Oil products make a good one. However Ford transmissions in explorers are pretty common for failure.

My 2001 ford explorer sport i stuck in 4 wheel low. How can i fix this?


Put transmission in neutral with engine running push the button for high 4x4 several times. If that doesnt work, tap on 4x4 actuator while someone pushes the button for u. Its kinda like a starter.

Change the bulb in brake light, still dont work fuses are good

Transmission and idle


the first it sounds like a clogged fuel filter or a vacuum leak or a leak at the intake manifold gasket and the idle speed control is incorrect.
the transmission it maybe low on fluid or need a tranny service: new fluid and filter

As funny as it may sound in alot of instances it must be reset. try turning the key on and off about 60 -70 times. seems rough on the starter but has worked for me in the past. not sure if it works on fords but works well on all mopars.

If Drive Selector switch is properly aligned then a shift silonoid might be the problem.

the transmission is loseing internal fluid pressure, its time for a rebuilt transmission. The A4ld that your explorer has is prone to trouble in this area. A good rebuilt transmission may cost at least $1700 dollars.
