Question about 2004 GMC Envoy
When this happens it is usually the canister purge solenoid stuck open.
This solenoid/valve is normally closed.
It only opens when the vehicle is on the road to open and allow the vapors stored in the carbon canister to be burned in the engine.
If it is stuck open it allows the vapors when you are filling to enter the engine and flood it out with the vapor.
This valve will need to be replaced. It is under the hood but I will need to know which engine is in your Envoy and if it is 2 or 4 wheel drive.
Leave this information to me in a comment here and I will try to find you a location Diagram.
