Question about 2001 Mazda Tribute
You may get one bad spark plug in 50 years of driving
Does that answer your question?
You did not diagnose your problem, which
was a misfire.
Do you have codes PO301 thru PO306?
Ignition Coils cause misfires
Have to know the system your working on

Im having the same problem on my 2001 mazda mpv. I got a code of po301.Im a technition, and it seems to me that the plugs are dirty causing the miss fire. Possibly the Ignition coil. The cheapest way to find out is fist replace the plugs. Then again try switching the wires around make sure you mark them first to go back in original place.

SOURCE: cylinder not firing
Have you verified that you are getting spark at the plug when the engine turns over? To do this you can remove the spark plug and insert it into the end of the plug wire. Set the electrode against something metal on the engine. Crank the engine and watch for spark. If you get spark, then you can start thinking about timing, cylinder, fuel problems. If you don't get spark, think about distributor cap/rotor or wire problem.
